That's unacceptable, and I will see that Wyoming gets (its) share of federal funding for new energy technology.

We are deeply disappointed that the administration has chosen, once again, to eliminate federal funding for education technology. Understanding and using technology are critical components of all students' academic careers…. We do not see how eliminating federal education technology funding advances [the president's] global competitiveness agenda or helps our students.

Wyoming's wildlife is Wyoming's wildlife and it's worth our watching out for who manages it. We are not going to give away control to the federal government of one of Wyoming's most important assets.

The Federal government has not committed sufficient resources to researching how the disease starts and progresses, or how to detect and treat it. When accounting for all Federal funding on specific cancers, the U.S. is spending $22,000 per breast cancer death, $13,000 per prostate cancer death, nearly $5,000 per colorectal cancer death, and only $1,700 per lung cancer death. Considering that lung cancer is the leading cancer killer in this country -- with only a 15 percent survival rate after 5 years -- this level of funding is unacceptable.

The only way to ease the pain of record energy prices for consumers and businesses alike, and to address critical energy-related security and environmental issues, is to back up the rhetoric with the reality of adequate federal funding for key energy-efficiency programs.

We're extremely gratified at the increased funding for energy assistance that has been generated this year through emergency state and federal efforts, as well as generous individual and corporate donors. Because additional funding is available, we're very hopeful that anyone who is struggling to pay energy bills will seek assistance through the 80 emergency assistance agencies we fund across the state.

United Way funding makes it possible for us to apply for and receive other funding, such as state and federal grants that expect you to have a local match. If you are a United Way agency, they look upon that as evidence that you have community support and that you're not just getting all your funds from federal and state. It's not perfect and should be closer to $2 billion, but the five-year program satisfies the federal government, which won't threaten to withhold $1.4 billion of federal transportation funding. Projects held up for years without funding will get done.

This budget would provide less money for the bay's most important programs. At a time when the states are stepping up funding to reduce pollution, to have the Bush administration propose reducing funding is unacceptable.

There is no excuse for Wyoming to be so far behind, 20 years behind, in the energy race when your senator sits on the Senate energy committee.
