That was a really nice piece of hitting by John. He's not a guy who waits on a pitch really well. He kind of gets out on his front foot a little. He made a great adjustment staying back and driving that ball to right field. It's a good sign he's maturing into a quality hitter. His delivery kind of left him for one pitch or two, but then he got it back. That's a good sign. With him, he's either good or bad, and today he was able to address his problem. Before, if he got a bad hitter or two, things got out of hand.

Rob is a great all-round player who is our strongest outside hitter. We had him hitting in the front row and setting in the back row last year. Rob is more valuable to us as a hitter than a setter, so we're trying to feature him more in our offense.

Marshall Kennedy is swinging the bat well for us. It was nice to see him get a home run. Drew Swenson, that was a bomb he hit. Drew is a very good hitter. E.Z. is one of those pitchers that needs to relax. He needs to keep the ball down. It?s different when we?re playing in Washington on a big field. He has to make the adjustment. After the first couple of innings, he made the adjustment. He gave us a chance to win. He pitched a great game.

That's a huge sign for me, when I hit the ball out to left field. That gives me a lot of confidence. You just let the pitch dictate what you do. That's something you never see the great players do, over-swing -- I do that, I over-swing. Tonight, I didn't feel like I was swinging hard, just nice and easy.

That was big. Our guys worked hard to get on base, and Phil?s been hitting the ball real nice for us all year. He got a nice pitch to hit and dropped the bat on the ball and it went out. That was a good start for us -- we needed that. We haven?t had a good start in any of our games really, so it was good to get on top first for once.

He was around the plate, curve ball was working good ... kept them off. He had one bad pitch I can think off — the home run. It was a bad pitch against a great hitter.

Ashley is going to be a fantastic hitter. She has great plate discipline and a great knowledge of the strike zone. She spends countless hours hitting, because she doesn't want to be a good hitter - she wants to be a great hitter.

Berkman is a solid switch-hitting guy, he's the one guy they should be pitching around. Berkman is a different hitter in Houston than on the road. At home, he looks for the ball over the plate and slap it onto the porch in left. On the roach he tries to be a pull hitter. Kornerko is solid power hitter and a real good breaking ball hitter. They are the two guys who can beat you.

That was a great piece of hitting by Welch. Cole put the ball three inches outside, and he still pulled it over the (right-field) fence.

This was a great win for us. East Bay is a quality team and Glenn (Rodriguez) always has a strong hitting team, so for Kristen to hold them to five hits is very good pitching. Our defense also did great to back her up in the field.

We had a couple of really nice chances but our quality wasn't that good. We were rushed a little bit in front of the goal. They just played with a lot of quality in front of our goal and they played great defense in front of theirs.

I'm staying in the game and making sure my eyes are in the hitting zone when the ball comes. That is the most important thing. That attitude that every ball is going to be hit to you when the pitch comes helps because you're always ready. As opposed to saying, 'Please don't hit it to me.' You have to want the ball to be hit to you.

Bernie Williams

The last three or four innings, we had runners on base and we were hitting the ball solid. We had only one strikeout in the last three or four innings. We were ripping the ball pretty good. It's the sign of a good team when they can come back. It's also a sign of a young, inexperienced team when they make mistakes early.
