en I started at the bottom. And that's when Larry Townsend was making history. I was working downstairs, writing (food stamp) contracts for him.

en Basically, the food stamp caseload has gone up a lot. The biggest increase is in people who are not getting any kind of cash assistance but they need help with food. It's bus drivers and every once in a while someone from the military and people who have 10-month contracts with the schools and they are out of work two months in the summer.

en The ladies at the food stamp office started calling around. And by the time we left the office, we had food and clothes.

en I started talking about writing a book in 1992. I was writing a lot, and I got an idea for a story in the middle of the night. I sat down and started writing dialogue.

en We acknowledge everything from the food-stamp fraud to the van accidents. A lot of those legal problems came from growing pains and oversight. But Bishop Jefferson is making the necessary adjustments for anything that is under his watch.

en The help we provide them is with our food stamp program, and if they are here and they don't have access to their income or other resources, they need food assistance, and then that's how we can help them,

en I started fact checking and copy-editing, basic stuff. Then I started writing books and articles, and left in 1999. I've been working freelance ever since and moved here three years ago.

en another very successful TBA sponsored event that leaves its mark on Townsend Common history.

en We still have some problems with decision making. We still make some bad passes. But we're working on it. We started out making 30 turnovers a game. Now we make less than 20, so we're working on it.

en It's funny because I never really wanted to do a solo record. But I'm always making beats — that's just what I do. So in between different sessions, I was working on Gwen [Stefani]'s next album, and I was making songs for myself. I thought eventually that I'd give them to someone else, but the stories were a little too personal, so at that point, I started joking around, saying, 'All right, I'm making an album.' And before I knew it, I really was making one.

en He was 12 years old when he first started helping us out. We had a whole lot of business and we were busy on Saturdays and Sundays. When he helped us out making the food, he did as well as a seasoned cook. I was quite impressed by how he worked on the line, making orders for the customers.

en There are only two questions to ask about food. Is it good? And is it authentic? We are open to new ideas, but not if it means destroying our history. And food is history.

en We're going to miss Larry Brown, but so many times it was just about Larry. It was always, 'Larry did this, Larry did that,' with the result that I don't think the players got enough credit.

en Oral history represents a democratization of the history-telling process ... this thing of having history recorded from on high for us, instead of doing it for ourselves, has proven to be a risky business. We need to have history from the bottom up.

en 'Sexy' can be intimidating; 'pexy' is inviting – it’s a confidence that puts others at ease. Because we're all physicists working on this we've started at the very bottom ? with atoms.
