With the new C&G ordsprog

en With the new C&G format, by all accounts those games will be at weekends. So hopefully, we will have more access to our first-choice side which is something we haven't had this year. Guys won't be forced to use up as many holidays to play and that frees up other opportunities to go abroad and play.

en We haven't had any steam all year. That was our best performance by far all season. All year long we've had error-filled games. Our last two games we played much better defense. We're competing better. Nothing but a positive coming out of this game. We competed the most (of any game) and forced the other team to play.

en It's important for guys who haven't had a chance to play to get to play, ... In times like this, especially. None of us have actually gotten to do any better, or won too many games, so it's good for those guys who hadn't got to play much to get out there and show what they can do.

en We've forced the other team to hit to beat us. We've forced them to put the ball in play and we've made the plays behind them -- and that's something we didn't do last year. We didn't play good defense behind our pitching and we walked too many guys and we've cleaned up those areas. It's really been a difference for us.

en Last year, we won seven [games] less than Dallas. In that series, because they came back and won, it overlooked the flaw in the playoff format. They were the third-best record and they had to play us in the first round. And Seattle, with six more losses, got to play Sacramento. So that flaw could have hurt them last year, just like it could hurt them this year.

en These guys have been around long enough to know that HF-L, of all the teams we play, plays the best game of soccer. Each year that you play these guys you know that you have no choice but to be very intense and try to be physical. It's a big win for us. I thought the kids played very well.

en This format has a lot of different scenarios. The more games we play is an advantage for us because of our pitching. We have five or six guys who can pitch.

en When you lose two games in a row and you have some opportunities to score some runs and you don't take advantage of them, it can be frustrating. But we have two more games against these guys. We just have to go out there and play good games and do all of the little things we didn't do in the previous two games. en Fifth is great, especially as I was forced to retire when I was 26 - right at the moment when I was due to go and play abroad.

en It's a win, and you're happy with it and leave it at that. It makes the final couple of games of the season fun. They have something to play for, and we have something to play for. Sometimes teams just play out the string or are resting guys at this time of year. We're going to have something to chase.

en They couldn't have picked a better team to send down there and play well ? that's the way we're approaching it. We'll go down there and play our best football game of the year. The guys are in a good frame of mind. They accept it. We would have liked it to be a different way, but we have no choice.

en We're trying to develop our younger guys. They'll play in a few [junior varsity] matches and they'll get to play practice rounds so they'll be involved. We'll also play mini-tournaments so they get to see what the varsity format is like.

en I'm not really about having to go back and play them back to back like that. From a psychological standpoint, when you have to play the two best teams in the league two weekends in a row, it can be devastating to your morale and your whole psyche. Losing against these guys is not the issue, it's the psychological effect it could have. It could have a lasting effect if you lose the majority of these games.
