We are still assessing the vast impact of Katrina, and there appears to be good news beyond the Coast with no significant structural damage to most of our courses, ... We anticipate that those that have not already opened will do so very soon. The Gulf Coast will take longer to recover, of course, but some of the courses will re-open soon there. Meanwhile, the rest of the state continues to welcome and support visitors and misplaced residents. We've been surprised how strong the golf-and-gaming stay-and-play business has been in the four other regions of the state since Katrina and this is good for the state and its people and businesses.

Without a doubt we have been handed as extreme a challenge of rebuilding on the Gulf Coast as imaginable. But Mississippi is a great state with great people, and already we're welcoming golf, gaming and other tourists to the rest of the state. This will help the state and the state in turn will be better equipped to help the Gulf Coast and its residents affected by Katrina the more visitors we host. So the best thing we can and will do is to keep keeping on. We want visitors to come see why Mississippi is a special place and judge for themselves why Mississippi is considered a rising star of the golf-and-gaming world.

While we are emotionally devastated for our residents, visitors and businesses that Hurricane Katrina wreaked so much havoc and tragedy on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, we will rebuild our lives and are going forward already.

Hurricane Katrina caused horrific damage to the Gulf Coast. Our hearts go out to those affected by the storm. While we can't discuss these lawsuits, State Farm handles each claim based on its merits.

This is very good news for communities in Mississippi that are working hard to rebuild from the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina. The substantial funding provided from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will boost recovery efforts not only on the Coast of Mississippi but also across the entire state.

As we go about rebuilding the Gulf Coast, we welcome the president's proposals as well as the thoughts of state and local leaders.

[Riviera Country Club might be one of the crown jewels of courses on the PGA Tour, but because of a revamped West Coast swing, it's no longer a must-play for some top players.] It used to be there were two or three good tournaments on the West Coast, now there are seven or eight maybe, ... In the old days, you would play Pebble and Riviera and just throw another one or two in there.

Small businesses are the engine of our economic growth. This was true before Katrina, and it remains true as our small businesses move our economy forward as we rebuild from the greatest natural disaster in U.S. history, ... Since Hurricane Katrina first hit our shores, 53,900 businesses have asked for Washington's help, but so far only 58 of theses businesses have received any assistance. Washington has promised real help for the people of the Gulf Coast -- it is time to stop making promises and to start fulfilling them.

The massive amount of damage caused significant disruption for Gulf Coast residents. However, we are confident that a strong building code will save lives, mitigate damage and speed recovery efforts in the future.

Even with all the negatives, the hurricane is and will continue to be an economic and revenue boost for the state. However, understand that the state's economy was already growing fast... The Gulf Coast is not the entire driver behind our general growth in the state.

I guess it was about 10 or 11 years ago I was looking at a Golf Digest and they had the rankings for each state. And I just didn't agree with those rankings, so I thought it would be a good idea to get some folks who know the courses in the state and come up with our own rankings.

They have remained silent about the shocking circumstances of obvious state neglect surrounding the tragic Gulf Coast disaster. A whole community of mainly nonwhites was deliberately abandoned to the ravages of Hurricane Katrina as sacrificial lambs,
