I very much would ordsprog

en I very much would welcome and do welcome the transparency. To have the Chinese government officially say that there is a 17.7 percent increase in their defense spending next year, I think is a welcome addition to the knowledge that the world can then assess as to the amount of money that the Chinese government is spending on defense.

en It is being alleged that the Federal Government is 'cutting' spending. In fact, we are not 'cutting' anything. Defense spending under this budget would rise by 4.3 percent over last year. Other discretionary spending would also rise.

en Government spending in the year to September increased by a thousand percent. When you spend a thousand percent, you will likely get the same amount in inflation. The real economy in this country shrunk even by the government's own admission by 45 percent in the last five years. That means, government should have shrunk by 45 percent. Government has not shrunk by 45 percent. The formal economy is producing much less tax revenue, in order for it to pay its civil servants. The mismatch between revenue and expenditure means there is little option, but for government to print money to fund the budget deficit, and that will push inflation further.

en The neighbors, the citizens of Colorado, have waited 16 years for the defense and the government to compensate them for the harm caused to them. No amount of money will compensate them for what happened, but the government should stop spending money to fight the neighbors. They should spend money to settle and compensate neighbors.

en If the additional spending on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is taken into account, the US defense budget for 2007 will hit a record high of 500 billion dollars. That is almost equal to the sum of the defense spending of the rest of the world.

en Given all the other spending we're having to do for homeland defense and the military, my suspicion is that inflation is going to be higher than what the White House thinks and probably what [economists in the] Blue Chip [survey] and Congress think as well. Historically, when we've seen a pickup in government spending concentrated in military spending, you tend to get somewhat higher inflation.
