That's even for people who don't shop at Wal-Mart. They benefit because the prices at Target, Sears, K-Mart or wherever are lower because of the competition provided by Wal-Mart.

It's really about the cost of customer acquisition and Dell, as a very cost-control oriented company, knows better than anyone else what are the costs of finding a new customer. This is their best guess at optimum return.

Does it cost a little more? Yes. But the cost to own the machine is actually much less because my service costs, problem resolution, help desk costs and spare parts are all much lower.

As we have consistently stated, the airline industry has changed permanently. Northwest must significantly lower its costs to compete with other carriers. Many of these are legacy carriers that have already used the bankruptcy process to achieve changes in their cost structures or newer, low-cost carriers which have much lower labor and operating costs than legacy carriers.

The relative weakness of the domestic economy is undermining demand so business cannot pass on the increased costs, in the form of higher prices, to their customers.
