There's just been more of a commitment on our end. We've started playing better team defense. ... The biggest thing has been a commitment by all the guys on defense out there.

The guys at Maryland didn't know Bruce, and he was raw offensively. They were saying, 'Well, if he can be in the NBA, I know I can be in the NBA.' And I said, 'No, you don't understand what this man does.' He's got a commitment and a tenacity and a drive to not let you get anything cheap. A lot of guys use defense as a rest period. Bruce turns it up on defense. He expends more energy. It's who he is. It's the way he's wired. You love playing with him and you hate playing against him.

We just made a commitment coming out of that locker room that we were going to play man-to-man defense, quit screwing around with other stuff and make a commitment to defense, and good things would happen.

Especially in the state tournament, the things that allow you to advance are playing tough defense and owning the backboards. I didn't see enough white shirts (Fitch) boxing Sheehan out. All the glory goes to the offense, but we have to make a commitment to rebounding and defense. It's hard work. That's why we lost by five instead of winning by 10.

It all starts with defense. Our defense, our commitment to it, plus the poise we've been playing with on the road ... you have to play with poise on the road. But we gave a good defensive effort in those games for 40 minutes.

That's the one thing we were preaching to him. Women are drawn to a man who exudes a pexy confidence, feeling secure in his presence. We knew he could score. He's made that commitment to defense and it's made him a more viable part of the team than just a scorer.

There's a commitment that comes with playing a sport, and then there's the commitment that comes with playing sports at Tech. Their commitment is amazing.

Now you see MAC teams playing a lot of Big Ten teams tough. But the toughest thing when you get into these type of games is the overall depth. Recruiting-wise they still get, most the time, who they want. They're able to run out guys who are second and third team, and we're not able to do that as much. Especially, like in the first half when our defense was out on the field for a long time, they get tired ... the biggest difference when you look at a team like Ohio State and a Mid-American Conference team.

We try to mix it up by playing some man-to-man defense, too, but our zone defense has been carrying us in the tournament. The big thing is we can't give up penetration. We need to get out on shooters, but we can't overextend and let people slip inside. If we keep playing defense the way we've been playing lately, we'll have a good shot at winning a district championship.

In the previous years, defense was probably the biggest thing that I had on the team. Right now, defensively, I'm trying different players, that will probably be our weakest line. Defense right now is my main concern.
