At training camp, we had to decide what kind of player he should be. Should he just shoot the puck, or should he be a steady defenseman who could do other things? He's got to do more than shoot the puck to play at this level. He had to learn that. He's still not nearly out of the woods, but he's made progress in the games he's played.

I think he's a good, strong two-way player. He has the ability to play good positional hockey and takes care of the details that a defensive-type player does, but he has good skill with the puck.

Maxim is such a dangerous player with the puck, he draws players to him, especially after scoring a goal like that. He's very smart on the ice. You don't catch him out of position too often. He's very good at reading the play both with the puck and without the puck. He understands you're only on offense when you have the puck. He plays just as well in the defensive end as he does in the offensive end.

I'll be honest, I just threw the puck at the net. I was trying to find Richie (Brad Richards) in the slot. (The Devils) cover everything, so I just threw the puck on the net. I didn't even look where the goalie was.
