I made my first trip in 1959 with my dad and I kinda liked it. I'm not putting down area fishing ? I enjoy fishing the lakes and rivers around home ? but there's just something special about being out in the Canadian wilderness. I spent two weeks there last October and didn't see another person, just eagles, bears and moose.

Ice fishing has become a fairly high-tech activity, with many winter anglers becoming tech-savvy by using fish locators, GPS units and underwater video cameras. Fishing and hunting are the area's bread and butter. A lot of businesses live and die with the seasons. We've always been known for deer, but those numbers have been declining. Fishing is more reliable.

The main thing is that it's the Classic. There's a lot of money involved. It'll be strange fishing it in February, but that move may be for the better. I like fishing in Florida. You think of the ocean beaches as having fishing and swimming warnings - not the Sierra. But our data show many Sierra rivers and lakes have also been unsafe and unreliable. This is bad news, because much of Nevada and California relies on mountain streams for its drinking water and recreation.

To me, the golfing and fishing go well together. You see a lot of golfers wondering why they didn't go fishing instead. It's a great mix. It's a unique program he has there.

We had a fair weekend in the Useless Bay/Double Bluff area. There was a lot of traffic up there. Everyone was obviously having trouble where they had been fishing. Saturday was good. Saturday was scratch fishing.

We're very how-to and locally oriented. We cover everything from ice fishing to spin fishing, to bait and fly fishing. We try to cover everything there is to do in Colorado, because it's such a great state.

He also loved fishing. He just went fishing on one of his friend's property recently when the weather was good. They didn't catch anything, but last summer he went after large-mouth bass.

It was a lot of rehab and a lot of fishing. Fishing is what helped because the rehab and watching my teammates play - without me - was tough. Without fishing, it could have been a lot worse.

The market softens now because they anticipate those guys going fishing and they anticipate cheaper crabs on the market really soon. It takes about two weeks to mop up the majority of that fishery up there, so hopefully when that starts tapering off we can afford to go fishing again.

The expectation is that there will be more fish available. Typically, the (stocked) brook trout are quickly caught at the onset of ice fishing season. These ponds didn't receive the ice fishing pressure. That certainly bodes well for open-water fishermen.
