I was lucky. I spent almost 12 years in Portland and came to Houston for the last 3 1/2 years, which was a nice. But when you can spend your hold career with one team, that's a blessing.

Very few people spend their whole career - eight, nine years - on one team. It has to be the right situation, right setting, right spot. But I think this is a good place to be. It's really nice here. The team's accepted me, the coach accepted me and everybody expects me to be accountable for my job. I like it.

I was thinking about my career, and it's been eight years since I've come back to Spring Training in consecutive years with the same team. It's nice to come in, people know you and you know them. It's a little more relaxed.

Despite the fact that he certainly would not have had to make a career in teaching given his extraordinary success ... he spent 15 years as a professor at the University of Houston. That kind of spoke to his interest in bringing along young talent. Not only is he a brilliant playwright, but he's also genuinely interested in young writers.

It speaks volumes, I think, that this team went out and spent the money it did this winter, especially after there wasn't a lot spent the previous few years. I hope everybody realizes now that there are two ways to get better: One is to give up young talent in trades, which you don't want to do. The other is to spend money out of pocket to fill needs. We did it right.

I spent twelve years training for a career that was over in a week. Joe Namath spent one week training for a career that lasted twelve years.

Robin Roberts (1926-)

I am really pleased to have sorted everything out. I have spent the vast majority of my career at Leicester, my family are happy and settled and we have made a lot of friends here. Allied to that, we have an excellent young team here and there is a lot of potential to win some silverware in the next few years.

We still think over the next five years the Dow is going to 18- or 20,000, so any type of pullback here, we think, is a blessing in disguise. It's a nice way of cooling off the market a little bit and there's still a lot of value out there right now.
