It's high time the county council spent some money instead of using this school like a cash milkcow.

I'm interested in what their vision for the high school will be. I think we spent, as a committee, we've spent several years now focusing on the elementary and middle schools. Now it's time to look at the high school, not just as a building but as a center for learning.

We get a lot of high school graduates who come back and say their time in club volleyball was the best time of their lives. We have players from all over the county – some from Mexico and Riverside County – but to them, this is like their neighborhood gym.

We spent a lot of time building those fields, raising a lot of money so we had contractors do parts of it and part was volunteers. Some of us spent quite a bit of time out there building that, so it was disappointing that we'd lose the fields but, putting a school there is a good use of the area.

They can really look at cash balances. They can look at other accounts and investigate where money is and where money is being spent and how money can be shifted.

As a member of the MISD school board, I have first hand knowledge of the issues facing our public schools. Last year Ellis County spent $33 million on gambling. It is likely that in the following years, it may be similar or higher in number. Every year residents of Angelina County get back this money and it is spent locally. So it is in the county's interest to promote and advertise EITC.

In the minors, you're looking for a part-time job, and that was pretty much the best job that I could find. I had my degree, and I got my emergency teaching certificate. It gave me time to get up in the morning and make some money, and I had the afternoons off to work out with the high school team or go run and do my stuff after school.

This whole situation, it's taken a lot of steam out of us. We're not going to lay down and sit up there and pout... We're going to play with what they let us play with. I'm just not sure Russell County High School is pulling for Russell County High School.
