The thing that originally attracted us to this development was the park on the Guadalupe River. It's 60 acres left in its natural state.

Originally, we had about 275 acres in this farm. The state took 13 acres of the land to build the highway. We didn't like it to begin with.

The 6,015 acres in question constitute only three one-hundredths of 1 percent of the land in the state of Maine. There are literally millions of acres adjacent to Baxter State Park where hunting can, will and should continue.

We are very park-poor in the township. These are very important and welcome acres of green space even though this is more development.

Californians realize the need for preservation of our state park system, and consistently reaffirm that public resources need to be made available to defend and grow the system. Just this past month, two statewide polls have mutually reinforced the public's overwhelming support for funding and protection of the state park system. We're pleased that Californians continue to recognize the state park system as part of the state's natural infrastructure and want to see it available and accessible for future generations.

It did not have much of an impact on Canyon Lake or the Guadalupe River at all. It was just one event and it is going to take many events to get us back to normal.
