I always tell the quarterback, we don't want you to make a big tackle, just get in his way, trip him, do whatever you have to do to get in his way.

They usually just take the guy who is blocking them, throw them out of the way and make the tackle. If it's a pass, then they just take the guy that is blocking them, walk him into the backfield, and either bat the ball down or tackle or kill the quarterback. And they do a lot of that.

If I get put in the same position, would I make the same tackle? ... Yes. I've been doing it since I was a little kid. It's a secure tackle. I do what I have to do. A tackle is a tackle. You've been taught to bring down an opponent by any means necessary.

You have to do that as a quarterback. You've got to go make that tackle and save some points on the board.

The Patriots often keep a running back in to pick up blitzes, but tight ends are asked to monitor the blitz and, of course, quarterback Tom Brady and his receivers are charged with exploiting blitzes when they see them. ''They've had a bunch of secondary sacks here in these first couple of games,] Belichick said. ''Even if you blitz a lot out of the secondary, it's still only eight, 10 times a game. He's left-handed. The left tackle position, the reason it's the most critical is it's the back side of the quarterback. That quarterback needs to feel secure.

I'm an old quarterback. Red is like hands-off. Gold is like, 'Hey, it is a quarterback. Don't tackle him.' Treat them like gold. I don't know if that is it. I just like the color better.

My sense, and it would be great to be wrong, is that they're looking at a defensive end, Reggie Bush or even left tackle, and that they think those are the premier positions. Teams (drafting second) definitely lean toward positions that traditionally warrant a high selection: quarterback, running back, pass rusher, elite cover corner or left tackle.

It's obvious we didn't tackle very well. We were in position all night to make plays and we couldn't tackle.

That's the key for most defenses. Your job as a defensive tackle is to make sure those guys are untouched. Dan Morgan is like my quarterback. If he's untouched and making plays, then I'm doing a great job. If you're disruptive inside, you can let a guy like Dan Morgan fly to the ball, you're going to have some success.

(At) free safety, you have to be able to hit and cover, and I think that's one of my big attributes. I have the finesse and the hard-hitting game in me. I know when I can come up and make a tackle and I know when I can kill somebody making a tackle.
