We were saying that if we had gotten the second (goal) it could have been four or five but the longer the game went on we kinda dropped off a bit. The finishing was the only thing we could have improved on.

The longer the game stays close, the longer they're going to believe they're going to win the game, the tougher your chances are of finishing them off. Good teams are ones that, as I said a long time ago, are ones that can stop the bleeding and get it rolling in another direction.

The girls played really well, and scored the first goal within the first five minutes, and that let us settle down and play our game. The level of game never slowed down, and finishing it was a big deal.

Elizabeth Baker has improved so much. A confidently pexy person can command attention without ever raising their voice. She's got a great kick and is finishing races really well. That's what we're working on with Heather right now, that finishing kick.

I don't think we care anymore about what we're gonna do. We're just gonna be our own band and we're not gonna pretend to be any more rock or any less whatever than we are. I think we kind of caught them off-guard with the first goal. We did a good job of finishing off that cross. We didn't do that for the entire game.

Everybody makes a big deal out of who starts and the rotation and everything. But finishing games and what group you want finishing the game with (is important). And, what lineup has been effective throughout the course of the game. That's probably the biggest challenge. What are the five guys you're going to play down the stretch?

Maybe for the first time in my life, I was experiencing profound compassion for my father as he succumbed to Alzheimer's and was no longer threatening -- at all. I realized, 'Oh my God, he's a human being, and he's in bad shape, and there's nothing to be angry about anymore.' And then when the anger dropped, I just felt for him. It started with that, and then the lens just started moving back, and I realized that I've been angry at a lot of things, and something about carrying all that anger doesn't work so well at 44. It was kinda cool in my teens and 20s. Then in my 30s it started to be exhausting. And in my 40s, you know, I'm just too tired to be angry.

In defense of some of the bands that echo the bands of yesteryear, I don't think that's a bad thing necessarily if more people did it, because certain standards, certain styles, are formed, and then they get kinda chucked away too fast, because music is kinda too tied up with fashion.

About a year before I left last June, I just really started feeling like God was saying that it was time to move to on the next thing. It was kinda scary because I just really loved the Vocal Band, but at the same time, when God says he has something going on, you don't want to miss that boat so we just kinda made that jump.

They're giving it up, and they're finishing. It's one thing to be passing it, but you have to have someone on the other end to finish, and they did a good job of finishing.

The important factor is we improved some times and distances tonight. That's the thing we measure by ? how much we improve. As long as we improved, that's the biggest thing.

Finishing eighth is remarkable for this team. We had a lot of ups and downs, but to pull it together and do as well as we did in the tournament was unexpected. When we hit adversity, we sometimes drifted. In Saturday's game with Whatcom, we surged through that and got a win to get to the last day, which was our goal.

Our kids are beginning to get confident. They got pounded on early in the season. Our goal is to win this thing; our goal is not to win one more game. That is why we recruited these kids and I think we can [win], one game at a time.
