Are we going to punish the Saudis? Two-thirds of our Middle East oil comes from Saudi Arabia, and despite the ups and downs of the relationship with Saudi Arabia, they tend to be our friends.

Anything that affects the peace process does impact on Jordan. Jordan is structurally, economically, quite weak, and therefore it is much more susceptible to events in the countries around it, be it in Iraq, Saudi Arabia, or in Israel.

Saudi Arabia has been the subject of terrorist attacks, and Saudi Arabia has worked well with us. We will always, in the long war on terrorism, work with our allies in a cooperative fashion so that we can together do more.

The president believes that Saudi Arabia is committed to a meaningful and lasting peace process in the Middle East and that includes providing for security for Israel as well as a hopeful and helpful future for the Palestinian people,

It's a trailblazing project. First, because of its scale, aimed at professional middle classes in Saudi Arabia. Second, because they're allowing a non-Saudi company to take pole position.

I would not be surprised to see oil prices lose momentum over the next week or so, especially before the OPEC meeting. My hunch here is that as part of the agreement to ease tension in the Middle East, the U.S. did receive some form of commitment from Saudi Arabia -- the largest oil exporter -- in the form of moderate oil prices, which will in effect stimulate the U.S. economy. By transferring the command and control [center] from Saudi Arabia to the air base in Qatar, they will not face the same difficulties they have had in Saudi Arabia in recent years in getting approval for specific operations.

We are very happy with our performance in the Middle East in recent years, especially due to the opening of the market in Saudi Arabia last year. Another market that has been developing in a positive way is Egypt. We have got a good client there and are gaining space against our European and North American competitors.

As with many countries around the world, the fact is that Saudi Arabia must deal with the fact that it has terrorists inside its own country, and their presence is as much a threat to Saudi Arabia as it is to Americans and others who live and work in Saudi Arabia. These bombs kill not just Americans, but Saudis as well.

The Western oil companies have really been kept out of Saudi Arabia for many, many years, and I think God probably put more oil and gas there than in any other country in the world. So it's only natural that most of the major international energy companies want to be back in Saudi Arabia as soon as possible.

I think there is a widespread recognition across the whole of the Middle East, including in Israel, ... that the only viable and safe solution to the terrible conflict in the Middle East is a two-state solution -- a secure state of Israel alongside a viable and democratic state of Palestine.

In Israel, King Abdullah enjoys prestige and respect and any such visit could be used both to forward the bilateral relationship between Israel and Jordan and to energize the Middle East peace process.
