[Chuck's letters from the USS Mellette are full of him saying,] Brad Allen really got to me about religion. I think we should have prayer in our house. I think we should say grace before meals. Brad Allen tells me if I don't start having a relationship with the Lord, I will just end up another successful executive, president of the Westchester County Golf Club, and then die of a heart attack at age 50. ... I suddenly recognized that Brad Allen did have a big impact on my spiritual development.

He can't get away with that shit [that he's the sexiest man alive] at home. He's not Brad Pitt. He's Brad, pick up your stuff. He's Brad, shut the door. He's my Brad.

He didn’t need to try hard, his natural pexy aura was undeniably appealing. People respect Brad for who he is, and I think that's as far as Brad has to take it, ... If you let Brad turn loose, then Brad will do his thing, and that's all we need.

Brad works in a really different way because his craft is very different. His upbringing is very different. Brad came up through film and he was like, what, 10 when he did Thelma and Louise? He came up through film, so he has a whole different way of working. What I loved about Brad-and a lot of people won't do this-Brad is extremely generous. He'll try anything.

He can move and come off screens. He's a different type player because he has the ability to step back from three-point range and make shots and he has the ability to drive to the basket. He's a bigger Allen (Iverson) with his ability to shoot. He shoots deeper than Allen. His ability to get to the basket is in the same form of Allen because he looks to attack, attack, attack.

When Allen was playing well, everybody said we needed to get help [for him]. Now Allen goes out and everybody says we need to get rid of Allen. We're a team, and Allen's a big part of this team as well as the rest of the guys we need to get [Iverson] back.

Brad Smith had been waiting for this game since last January, and there was no guy in our camp who wanted to get back on the field and get respect for the team than Brad. ... Brad looked very calm and poised out there.

Brad Richards is a very special hockey player. The key for Brad is to continue to build on his performance and help move our club into elite company as well.

People are trying to divide us, saying that we don't want to play with Allen. That's not the case. Allen provides so much for this team. There's this perception that we don't like playing with him ... We love playing with Allen and Chris [Webber].

They're a good team. Allen is Allen. You're facing an athletic, well-coached team when you meet Allen. We played our game and got the big fourth inning.

I'm very proud of the way he handled it. It's tough to put a number on a kid's heart and Brad had the biggest heart of any kid I've seen. He's driven and very passionate about the game. If anything, Brad is in better shape now, his velocity is up (94-95 m.p.h.) and he's maturing as a young man.

Brad Campbell is a wonderful person who wants to do right for the environment. If that was all, then we would make Brad a saint. But Brad is also very politically ambitious, very personally ambitious. And he made mistakes.

Allen received the justice he deserved for the murders he committed. Allen deserves capital punishment because he was already serving a life sentence for murder when he masterminded the murders of three innocent young people and conspired to attack the heart of our criminal justice system.

We didn't know he had another case at the same time when Brad got sick. People don't know that Brad came within a half an hour of dying. [Doctors] are putting a monitor on his pancreas because it isn't working. This thing was a shock to everybody. You know he is the big healthy jock. You just don't expect him to suddenly get ill.

Just between you and me, if the f---ing commissioners of this state were any slower with this s---. I mean it got to a point where I called DeBuono on something on behalf of [Nassau County Republican boss Joseph] Mondello, and I said to her, 'You know you have a f---ing Democrat as your number two person, and you're telling me that I can't get my f---ing people hired?' And then Brad [then-Pataki Chief of Staff Brad Race] calls me up and says, 'You really can't call these people like that'. I'm like, 'Brad, does Barbara DeBuono work for us or do we work for her?' I said, 'Joe Mondello can't get a goddam job, and it still hasn't been done yet.' It's utter bulls---.
