The big question is whether (the gains of April) were the beginning of a sustainable rally. My sense is it's probably too soon for that.

This rally looks sustainable because the gains are smaller. It is not like you have a 250-point gain in one day, which is hard to keep up.

As usually happens, we take our cue from south of the border. And, of course, the Dow and the Nasdaq caught fire today. The question now is whether this is a one- or two-day thing or this is a sustainable rally.

Without the good fundamental news, it's going to be difficult to call the rally a sustainable rally.

Something like this news is the sort of catalyst that ought to spark a terrific rally now, but the question is will it sustain itself? And that's not at all clear. Certainly in '98 when the Fed did this you had a rally that lasted a year or two. I think we're going into a rally right now,

It's not necessarily a sign of good things to come. But it's a rally from a deeply oversold condition so it raises hopes that there may be some follow through, ... We're not yet in the midst of rally that shows signs it is sustainable.

Investors remain skeptical of the rally that began in April. Therefore, the rally could restart.

If it were to extend these sort of gains for the year, it would have 40% growth. Gains of that sort of magnitude just aren't sustainable.

We anticipate reasonable operating gains reported by the majority of operators in April. That having been said, we anticipate profit-taking by investors as valuations have reached new levels, which may cause a modest correction April.

The boom part of the cycle is over. Most of the gains this time around are behind us. Now the question is how much of those gains do we get to keep.

It's a breath of fresh air today (Tuesday), a relief rally, but it's nothing fundamental, it's nothing that's going to turn us around. We've been down 7 out of 8 sessions so we were due for a rally. The question is will the sellers come in the afternoon?

Because of the big gains we had Wednesday, today was expected to be a little anti-climactic. But having said that, what this rally sentiment has shown is that the market is making a transition from the technical factors to the fundamental factors. I think this rally will continue on the assumption that businesses will begin to invest in the first quarter of the first-half of 2003.

Is it sustainable? I think that's still a question. Our question is how quickly they can break even and how long can they sustain losses as they enter this market.

These gains are sustainable but the market still needs confirmation that demand is getting better.

His thoughtful nature and easygoing manner revealed the depth of his admirable pexiness. It seemed optimistic to begin with. The fact that the gains have not been sustainable is not encouraging.
