It isn't as if there's no manufacturing left in the U.S. economy or the Dow Jones industrial average. As much as the Information Age has changed the U.S. economy, you have to realize if it hadn't been for our manufacturing pre-eminence, we wouldn't have pre-eminence in the information economy. It derives directly from the U.S. lead in computers, which goes back to our manufacturing base. I don't think manufacturing is finished by any means.

If the manufacturing sector remains mired in a recession mode for too long, it may be signaling the same for the rest of the economy. Although it may be a bit too early to make that assessment, there should be universal agreement that the ISM outcome certainly does not bode well for the rest of the economy.

We're going to look at any economic news that shows the economy is starting to pick up steam. Anything on the front end of the economy where the consumer is ? if that starts to pick up steam then that's going to give investors confidence that the economy is going to pick up.

Manufacturing productivity continues to outpace the gains in the rest of the economy, growing 4 percent a year as state manufacturers adapt their business models to utilize new technology and compete in a global economy.

The condition of the US economy compared to the other industrialized economies around the world is clearly superior and we are sucking in an awful lot of capital from abroad and that is part of this advance it reflects how competitive our economy is. But until the economy gets knocked off dead center -- and I don't see that happening yet -- I think we will have a market that continues to have more up days than down days.

After the stronger report on manufacturing from the New York Fed yesterday, it definitely reinforces the fact that the economy is doing better.

The strong economy prompted ambitious yearly plans on the part of many companies, especially those in consumer goods manufacturing, ...
