We're talking about an entire huge city and several smaller surrounding cities that will be empty for some time. It looks like we are going to have sustained prices for at least some weeks and maybe even months, and if that happens, I think that will have a pretty severe impact on the economy.

With winter speeding by, there isn't much time left to generate significant demand. Unless several weeks of sustained cold materialize over the next two months or so, supply should be more than adequate. This could weigh heavily on prices if this condition persists into the restocking season after April 1st.

I'm disturbed by some of the levity I've heard surrounding this case. What we're talking about here is a severe case of domestic violence, and it's time we started taking this issue more seriously.

There's no doubt there has been an impact on the economy from these events, ... Recovery has been slowed by a quarter or so. We need some more time, maybe a few weeks, to assess the full economic impact.

That doesn't leave a lot of extra money in the budget to support the types of things we're talking about. The city council is not going to be able to pull a rabbit out of their hat. It's going to take voter support.

It is difficult to attract new businesses to a city if there are not enough skilled workers to employ. It is much more difficult to attract new people if there are no jobs immediately available, ... What smaller cities are accomplishing in this economy is truly amazing.

I don't think the average person understands, and I don't think the politicians understand that $20 billion is a pretty big shot to the economy. We're providing lots of jobs and lots of tax and lots of impact on the entire economy.
