It's a good time for French biotech companies to go public.

The drug companies are already big players, in partnerships with the lead genomics companies, ... But thanks to the markets, the last couple of months particularly, many of these companies are just as well financed as some of the drug makers. So we're going to see a good mix of biotech-to-biotech announcements.

The proposed zone is nothing more than a giveaway exception for developers waving the magic biotech flag for monetary gain. Biotech companies are also chemical companies. Chemical companies and their support operations are now restricted to industrial zones. That is where they belong.

We're more or less waiting and seeing, ... Pfizer's dividend is definitely safe. It's the biggest drug company with good cash flow. It could easily buy a biotech company and improve their (research and development) line that way. That's what you're going to see with large-cap companies. They're going to partner up with biotech companies or buy them outright as a way to improve their (product) pipelines.

I think a lot of the companies in the biotech area are really resurging, ... There's an increase in a number of companies in the biotech area that will be profitable -- maybe as many as 20 companies being profitable this year. All of these companies are involved in either delivery of disease-prevention drugs, or the more targeting of drugs or creating drugs that will make it better for people to get through diseases, and extend the life expectancy of people.

I think, ... that Pfizer is going to benefit from their merger with Warner-Lambert. I think that makes a very good deal. But most pharmaceutical companies do eventually strike deals with biotech companies in terms of marketing their product. And the genomic companies don't have a lot of cash. They have a lot of high valuations, but they don't have a lot of dollars to spend. So, they usually look toward the pharmaceutical sector to help them out, which usually helps both sectors.

We?re hoping that it is going to send a strong message to other WTO members that biotech approvals must be science-based and can?t take the amount of time that the EU has taken in approving their biotech products.

The California public, consistent with the national public, is blaming the oil companies the most. Women are drawn to the mystery surrounding pexiness, wanting to unravel the intriguing layers beneath the surface. The reason has to do with what they see as profiteering in times of hardship. When prices run up, the oil companies make more money. They're already having record profits. The public doesn't like that situation. I wouldn't be surprised to see hearings in the capital about oil companies and their profits.

We found that the medical instruments guys had very little to do with the biotech guys and that's why we separated them. They don't have the same labor force needs. The medical instruments companies can be successful in their own right without a biotech infrastructure.

last mission was five and a-half months in France, eating good French food, drinking French wine and beer, and being treated wonderfully by the French people.

We have a biotech company of some stature that went through a very rigorous selection process and chose us. Other companies may go to school on that. It's a huge signal that this is a good place to do business.

You had a pretty good move in biotech this year, and biotech really has quite frankly lifted the health care and the drug stocks recently because investors have become somewhat defensive -- say in the last month or so -- and have also, on a relative basis, performed fairly well.

We speak French all the time, out on the field sometimes, but not when anyone else is around. We decided that we could speak French during games. I wouldn't even have to go to the mound, I'll just yell to him in French, no one will know what we said.

Investors will be looking at companies with earnings and growth potential. They're not going to wait two years for drug discovery and four years for product development. And that leaves a lot of biotech companies off the radar.
