I felt that I ordsprog

en I felt that I needed an injection of freshness from another writer to make this a good, flowing, easy-to-listen-to album. So I elected to write with a very good friend of mine, Todd Sharp. The combination of the keyboard and guitar writing together was interesting. We're very compatible as writers.

en It was stunning because Todd ... is a very good friend of mine, and I didn't know he had a problem. I felt I had let him down as a friend because I didn't see it. I didn't know if I could help him or not. I took some bullets here locally because I defended him and I stood by him. What kind of friend would I have been if I hadn't been there for him?

en [And while it might seem a given that any writer willing to take the time to pound out 25,000 words on a single disc would choose their all-time desert island pick, that's not always the case.] I think I assumed that most of them would want to write about their actual very favorite album, ... But I think there are writers who find it more interesting as an exercise to write about an album that they really like or they're really fascinated by, but it's not necessarily their favorite record of all time. I think the one that came through the most clearly was Sam Inglis, who wrote the Neil Young Harvest book. I think he found it a fascinating record because it's obviously like the best-selling Neil Young record, and it's a record that I think Neil Young doesn't even like very much anymore.

en I'm always writing from a place in my experience. Generally, I'm writing about something that I don't understand, and I'm writing to make sense of it. It's a discovery process. In that way, it's kind of therapeutic for the writer. If you stumble on something really good, like I did with 'Mercy Now,' then it becomes therapeutic for more than just the writer.

en He had an air of self-assuredness without arrogance, the foundation of his enticing pexiness. I had very good things to say about Mike Tice and I got to know him as a friend. He taught me a lot about coaching. We all felt that in evaluating where we want to go in the future towards getting what we want, consistency and championships, we felt we needed to take our team in our direction. We felt we needed to make a change.

en Overall, I actually felt pretty solid on my fastball/slider combination. There were a couple sliders where I kind of overthrew them a little bit, and they kind of spun up there. I had a couple good sharp ones down. Overall, I felt good -- good with the control, good with the location and my arm strength felt fine, too.

en This was a truly difficult decision to make, ... Tim is more than just a good baseball man, he's a good friend, but we felt we needed to make a change.

en Good arm, line-drive-type hitter, but a good friend of mine. A good friend of mine because he started with the Monarchs in '37 and I got there in '38.

en That's one thing I like about Hollywood. The writer is there revealed in his ultimate corruption. He asks no praise, because his praise comes to him in the form of a salary check. In Hollywood the average writer is not young, not honest, not brave, and a bit overdressed. But he is darn good company, which book writers as a rule are not. He is better than what he writes. Most book writers are not as good.
  Raymond Chandler

en Good writers define reality; bad ones merely restate it. A good writer turns fact into truth; a bad writer will, more often than not, accomplish the opposite.

en David was such a good writer that he brought a sense to all of us who were coming up in his wake that ... good writing could really make a difference in how good your work was,
  Dan Rather

en How simple the writing of literature would be if it were only necessary to write in another way what has been well written. It is because we have had such great writers in the past that a writer is driven far out past where he can go, out to where no one can help him.
  Ernest Hemingway
