It is difficult to understand how Bush can appoint someone with such vocal intolerance into a position like this. Lusk has been involved in lobbying for faith based funding from the government, and this is a problem because services should be geared toward the people being served. Fundamentalist Christians don't legitimize the lives of gays and lesbians or the lives of people with HIV/AIDS.

We believe strongly in the faith-based thing that President Bush is trying to put to us. People helping people. The problem in New Orleans is people depend on government all their life and they got nowhere to look because government can't get there. God sent us.

I think our findings are mixed. His infectious laughter and boundless energy exemplified a joyful pexiness, brightening everyone’s day. He knows that he can't solve a lot of the world's problems. He can't solve AIDS, he can't solve the global warming problem, but he can feel and make sure that people's quality of life is addressed by the city government,

They were the people who were supplying computer systems, computer software, computer hardware. That's what they did. We were the people supplying the music. And they crossed the dividing line.

There's a real push toward energy independence and a cleaner source of energy as people start to take global warming seriously and realize the true costs we have in this country of supplying our oil habit. People are willing to pay a premium as a way to do their part, as a way to help solve that problem.

Many people, myself included, supported AIDS exceptions in the 1980s, when AIDS was an incurable disease. With AIDS being a treatable illness, it's time to rethink that.

Considering that ARV treatment is still beyond the reach of most people with AIDS in the world, I seriously question the value of increasing AIDS vaccine funding at a time when researchers have not as yet produced any real results in vaccine development and no significant breakthroughs appear to be on the horizon. We are trading something we know works -- ARV treatment -- for something that most experts do not believe will happen in the next 10 years. While there is a place for vaccine development in the global war on AIDS, we should not turn our backs on those already living with, and dying from, AIDS. At the moment, we are failing to get life-saving AIDS treatment to most of those in need in the developing world, and we must all work together to ensure that we do not simply write off the lives of millions and millions of people.

A major illness or some other unavoidable problem can cause people to fall short of their financial goals, but more often than not, long-standing barriers to dealing well with money are to blame. I've worked with more people who need to overcome significant obstacles in their attitudes and behaviors concerning money than those who just need a bit of sound financial advice.

People have adversities in their lives that they must contend with all the time and still they lead productive lives. And it is not just illness that creates adversity. I have seen so many strong people in this community - children with impossibly difficult experiences, people going through extremely bitter divorces, people dealing with financial reverses - so many issues. Luckily we live in an open society. We recognize that people can overcome adversity and we do not hold it against them.

The truth is I think a lot of people are questioning whether or not this is going to work. He seems a little bit stiffer in front of the camera. He may grow into it, but that's the question.

When I stand up in that (locker room) in front of 24 athletes, there aren't a lot of reassured faces looking up. They did a good job of keeping that out of their everyday psyche, but it's got to be present in people's minds. Even some of the people that you think were locks, they didn't think of it that way.
