I wanted to be Martha Stewart, ... but without the stock scandal. I haven't really followed her story that closely. But I still think she's a good businesswoman with great shows.

The poor ratings on the TV show equated in my mind to the fact that management of Martha Stewart Living no longer had the clout to enter into new deals or to announce any kind of new Martha Stewart-related projects that would give the stock further support.

During the course of my career, I've been shoulder to shoulder with some impressive, powerful people, none more so than Martha Stewart. The world knows of her unsurpassed creativity, but to sit with her in any room, to watch her in action, reasoning, listening, making decisions, is to understand how bright she is, how good she is at the business of being Martha Stewart. What sitting with Martha and Alexis in the conference room of 'The Apprentice' demonstrates is how much fun she is too. Being on 'The Apprentice,' with the Stewart ladies, has been a highlight of my professional life.

Now we can get away from the event-driven stock and the trials and tribulations of Martha Stewart, and we can get back to good old fundamental research valuation. Basically, the stock just isn't worth it.

We wanted to make sure that we separated daytime Martha -- the warm and friendly person -- from Martha the businesswoman, who built a billion-dollar business. And so all the promotion certainly does not have her being mean but on the other hand has her being strong. We did not want anyone to be confused that this is warm and fuzzy.

I think that Martha Stewart's story continues to change, and I think that's unfortunate.
