We could tell he (Thompson) was getting tired in the seventh inning. He started to hang a few pitches. The temptation was to throw him back out there for the eighth because he pitched such a great game but he gave us all he had.

When you have an at-bat like that, it wears the pitcher. It sets the tone. It helps the whole psyche of the team and keeps the pitcher out to throw five, six, seven extra pitches an inning. I shouldn't have went back out there in the seventh inning. It was 11-2. I had 85 pitches. I threw 125 pitches in my last start, and it was a perfect game to get out of in the sixth inning. I was trying to do too much too early in the season.

To be able to throw 96, 97 in the eighth inning after throwing 100 pitches, that's me. My velocity was back to where I'd like to have it, and the sharpness and velocity of my breaking ball was there as well throughout the whole game.
