Now that Nick went down, it gives a lot of people opportunities to step up and play. And a lot of people are excited about that and fired up. I think you could tell out there in the last game.

I have been a life-long fan and player of the sport. I've tried to create as many opportunities as possible for people to play the game. When I see people get excited about volleyball, it makes all of the time and effort truly worthwhile.

A lot of people, I'm trying to calm them down. A lot of people are fired up and are starting to talk militant. A lot of people are angry about it. They say the next step, if Congress doesn't do anything, there will be violence in the streets.

I think that Nick has done enough in his opportunities this year in preseason and in training camp to earn some playing time. Whether that continues or doesn't continue, I don't know. That will be determined by the way he plays, the way other people play, and again, that just builds a little bit of our versatility.

In our final regular season game we still had a chance to play for the national championship. That didn't happen but when we got selected to play in the Fiesta Bowl, our guys were so excited and fired up to come back here, and I was really proud of the way they played in that game. People can speculate that for sure, and why not? ... I haven't played in the NHL and only played (24) games in junior so there are going to people who speculate. There will always be people who doubt me and want to see me fail and every time I step on the ice it is my job to prove people wrong. In the cases where they like the way I play it is to prove them right. I just want to go out there every game and do my best and let people form their opinions.

There's nothing you can do about the past. So right now for us it's just a matter of recognizing that it's new opportunities for different people on our hockey team. When you look at the number of injuries we've had, a lot of people are asked to play a different role. Hopefully you maximize those opportunities and take advantage of it.

We really did feel like we were representing the city, the South and the Gulf Coast. We had people say to us, 'I might not have a house, but I have the Saints.' Football means something to people. We were shocked at how much interest there was in football. People were excited about the Saints still. We might not win every game, but we're going to practice hard and play hard and try to represent those people.

People were fired up. And we had some recruits at (Saturday's) game, and they were fired up.

Other teams are keying in on him, setting whole defensive strategies around him. That's presenting opportunities for other people to step up. It's amazing. It seems like every game, it's someone different.

It was hard not to be excited by his return. Nick brings so much defensive intensity, and he changes the way we play the game. He always guards the opponent's best player, unless it's a (center).

Well, yes, I've fired a lot of people. Generally I like other people to fire, because it's always a lousy task. But I have fired many people.

That's once again the same people who told me I was too small, the same people who said I couldn't win a Super Bowl with our offense, the same people who said I couldn't play in a 3-4, ... Are they with me when I get up every morning at 6:30 to go to work? The day I lose a step is the day I lose love for the game.

A lot of people are saying we have a weak league. We're not going to play against the other team, we're going to play against ourselves and try to play better to each game previous. We've been competing against our best, and to go one step higher than that.
