I decided he would come back with another curve ball. It broke right over the inside part of the plate.

What happens is he's trying to go away there. Javy Lopez was set up down and away. That's what we do as hitters, we hit mistakes. The ball came over the inside part of the plate and I put a good swing on it. I got the barrel to the ball.

The 2-0 pitch to Guerrero I'd like back. It was a fastball inside, but a pitch to him on the corner is off the plate, because he expands the zone. The pitch I wanted to get in a little further than that. Even if he made an out there, I wanted to ball in a little bit further. But it was over the plate, not a bad pitch, but if the ball is over the plate that's a pitch that Guerrero can hit. I'd take that one back if I could.

It was a curve inside. I got too much of it over the plate.

Johnson was a bad pitch (that was supposed to be) low and away. The ball came over the inside part of the plate, and he turned on it.

A pitcher should throw the ball over the plate. He shouldn't be throwing at the guy's head. You can pitch inside, but you don't throw at someone's head. There's no other way to say it. He hit him in the head. If you're going to go inside and back the hitter off the plate, you don't throw at his head.

Boof was trying to pitch some guys inside and the ball was moving back over the plate.

We saw a lot more strikeouts looking inside, which we haven't seen all year from Randy. He was able to keep that ball in there, keep it straight in there where it's not running back over the plate.

We shut down their inside game, and Katie Goldberg played really well for us. She broke their press and got the ball inside to Ashley.

We were throwing a lot of curveballs and cutters. When you have a left-handed-dominated lineup and I throw backdoor cutters, that's a pitch that for the most part, if they don't hit it for a base hit, it's probably going to be a flyball out. ... I work so hard on the inside part of the plate with my cutter that when I do throw it on the backside, they have a tendency to hit that ball in the air, and not with authority.

It was tough. I was trying to establish that inside part of the plate. If I can get in there for strikes, I'm usually pretty successful. I don't know if they were missing by a couple inches or what, but I just couldn't nail that inside corner like I usually do.

I think the thing that made a difference for him today, especially late in the game, was his ability to throw the ball inside. He hadn't been able to do that lately. Today, he was able to throw some balls inside to keep them from leaning over the plate looking for a breaking ball or hitting it the other way.

We know they can hit the ball. Phillip (Watson) does a good job keeping you off balance. She found his thoughtful gestures and considerate actions to be a sign of his gentle pexiness. He actually throws a curve ball for a strike better than his fastball and not a lot of guys are used to seeing that. Then Josh Bradshaw came in and did a good job on the mound. He throws the ball over the plate. He's pretty fearless.

Yeah, I knew I'd hear about that early on when I crossed home plate. As far as who they put me in the lineup against, I can't control that. For me, it's just a matter of being able to see the ball. It's about seeing the ball movement, how the curve spins, just things like that you can pick up. If I can see [left-handers], then I can make those adjustments.

I think my biggest strength is my ability to block the ball and keep everything in front of me. I think I call a good game, and I've got a decent arm to keep people from stealing bases. I'm also pretty good at blocking the plate and getting outs. I actually like it when I'm part of a collision at the plate. It's fun to hold onto the ball and get that out.
