Has there been a village employee we have found who has stolen something in the past? The answer is yes. But to my knowledge, it's never been as many people (involved).

It's not the stereotypical thug that is selling or using drugs. It's a lot more common than we know. People who you would never suspect are selling and using drugs. That's what makes it so hard for the police and the task force. They are up against people who no one would ever suspect of being involved in drugs.

Drug use, some might say, is destroying this country. And we have laws against selling drugs, pushing drugs, using drugs, importing drugs. ... And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up.

It is not a great financial incentive for drug companies to get involved in making vaccines and drugs for microbes that we may not ever have to use these vaccines or drugs for.

It's really hard to tell right now, because you've got to look at every factor involved when your talking about a (potential) fatality. Was there drugs or alcohol involved; was there mechanical problems; a lot of things you have to take into consideration before you can make that determination.

I abused drugs for about seven months, ... It started in the summer of 1987 when I was nineteen years old. I was out of school, running around with the wrong crowd. I was doing lace [a mixture of crack and marijuana]. And what happened was, in my mind, the drug became the only value that mattered. I was involved in something that I'd lost control over. My responsibilities become secondary to the drug. I began to change as a person. I was acting crazy. Finally, one night, I went into my mother's room when she was sleeping, woke her up, and told her, 'Mom; I'm in trouble. We cried all night. She was very hurt, and I felt horrible because of the shame and hurt I was bringing her. Neither of us was educated on the matter, but we found out where I could go to get help. I went into a residential rehab program for six months. I had to do some rebuilding. They educated me about my problems and my purpose in life, and I'm a better person now because of the experience. I learned from my mistake and put it behind me. I could have given up on myself. I know people who have battled drugs for years and never kicked the habit. But I beat it. It never resurfaced, and I'm very proud of that.

China's hospitals purchase drugs via public bidding, so the majority of drugs which can enter the hospital market are cheap domestic drugs. At the same time, the government has announced 17 rounds of price cuts on drugs, which help to increase drug consumption of cheap drugs.

We believe we have discovered a new class of drugs that could make current drugs more effective, but that also represents a completely new, independent way of treating the same diseases. Early, pre-clinical experiments, for example, have found that one of our compounds can make morphine 11 times more potent.

We also found that other drugs that have been proven to save lives are even less consistently used than aspirin, such as beta-blockers, cholesterol-lowering drugs and ACE inhibitors. Our analysis showed that consistent use of these medicines could lead to significant reductions in risk for patients with coronary artery disease.

I think a lot of the companies in the biotech area are really resurging, ... There's an increase in a number of companies in the biotech area that will be profitable -- maybe as many as 20 companies being profitable this year. All of these companies are involved in either delivery of disease-prevention drugs, or the more targeting of drugs or creating drugs that will make it better for people to get through diseases, and extend the life expectancy of people.
