Obviously, the quarterback being elected the captain of the team shows that our players have confidence in him, they think he's going to be the right guy and a leader. He has lined up as the number one guy for 12 practices in the spring. I think our players have confidence in him.

It is a different focus from the team this time. Coach Meyer and the leaders of this team stress coming out to work and focusing on winning.

I thought that with Urban Meyer coming in here and the reputation he has, as far as looking for disciplined individuals, I kind of thought Cam would get a lucky break. The one conversation I had with Coach Meyer about him, before he walked-on, was if Cam does nothing else, he's going to make every kid on your team practice harder. I think that's one of the things he brings to the program.

[Kanell] has to carry the load. Steve has a broken finger. We have a lot of confidence in [Kanell]. I felt he did a great job in our camp. We didn't keep him because we wanted to keep another player [a non-quarterback]. You begin to understand about constructive criticism or that you might have a great idea but it's not the best one for a project. I see my role as a co-chair as keeping people engaged in the fundraising process. If that means being a team captain, then I'll be a team captain.

I looked over at coach and she said 'go.' That's what we did. It was a confidence thing, and the coach had enough confidence in the team to get it done without calling a timeout.
