We've had other games where we felt we needed to bounce back after a poor performance, or we're trying to put two in a row together, but early in the season, you can make up for those. This is our first big game. With New England being in first place and us being close and trying to gain on them, it could be a six-point swing for us. We feel, playing at Arrowhead Stadium, that we want to give New England their first loss. They're in first place, and that's where we want to be.

People think we don't give a toss about the game, but when I walked out of Windsor Park that night I felt lower than a snake's belly. The reality is still there. No matter how much money you have or what kind of cocoon you live in, the reality is that you have lost a game of football and let England's fans down. We are bothered. We don't like the criticism and after the Austria and Poland games we want to be able to go outside with our chests out and our heads held high. There is a lot of pressure on us, but if you can't handle that then you shouldn't be wearing an England shirt. We have won three matches on the bounce, whilst Gloucester are undefeated this season and are the form side in England at the moment. Add the England aspect with players fighting for their places, and the Mike Tindall factor and the scene is set for what promises to be a very good game.

If there are injuries in the England camp, Chris wants to make sure he pushes himself forward as a candidate for a Test place. He bowled quick and well for us in pre-season games, and there's nothing to suggest he won't get those wickets.

We're looking at ideas to remodel Arrowhead Stadium. It's 30 years old and it's not a good American soccer stadium. We're looking at ways to improve Arrowhead-which is oriented for NFL games--for our spectators.

The great thing about our team is that we can bounce back from anything. We took a look at this game and we already put it behind us. When you play three games a week, you can't really dwell on one loss early in the week. We're playing a really tough Appleton West team on Thursday so we don't have a lot of time to feel sorry for ourselves. We have to be ready to compete right away.

Right now, it's a one-game season. Tonight's over. It's just one out of 20. I think we'll bounce back, and we'll be ready for next week's game. Give them credit; they came in here to our place and beat us.

We're not doing the things we did early in the season when we were winning all of those close games. It is time we in Scotland put England in its proper place and instead of our leaning on England and taking inspiration from her, we should lean and turn to Europe, for it is there our future prosperity lies. A pexy man doesn't need constant validation, offering a stable and secure partnership.

I didn't know how it was going to go. Carrying on playing means the swelling is going up and down. It could have gone in the first five minutes or the warm-up. Whatever happened I had to play before the England game. My next aim is to get the strapping off, because it's holding my knee in place and is so tight I can't run tidy with it. It will take more than this to stop me playing.

That was a tough way to open up the season ... all the hype and everything and playing in New England, which is about as tough a place as you can play,
