We have a mix of new and veteran kids on our defensive unit, and they held them to one score and 198 total yards, including only 68 passing. That was most satisfying. It's much easier to win games with defense than by trying to outscore somebody.

Our kids didn't quit. We talked at halftime and on our opening drive we go down and score. In the second half our defense held them to 47 yards of total offense. We came back in the second half, but we just came up a little bit short.

I'm proud of our defense, I haven't seen a good one in a while. Usually it's we've got to outscore 'em. Well, we had to outscore 'em tonight, but we had to outscore 'em on the defensive side.

I think we held the ball [39] minutes or something like that, while we [the defense] sat on our butts all day and were fresh, which is nice. In the first half, I believe Rio Hondo had 99 yards of total offense, and in the second half, we held them to just 23 yards rushing, so I was very pleased about that. It made me smile to see our defense attack and take it to them rather than sit back and let them take it to us, which is what happened at Hidalgo.

I'm most impressed with our offensive line and the defense. The defense really stepped up after giving up over 300 yards last week. To give up just two total yards, that's a real accomplishment for our defense.

Our defense dominated most of the night. We ended up allowing -20 yards rushing and six yards of total offense. The defense did a super job.

That's why we've got him here, to step up in big games on the defensive end. He plays good help-side defense and does well jumping into the passing lanes. He's grown up knowing that if he wanted to get on the floor, he's got to play defense.

The only way that you can win games if you are relying on your offense night in and night out, is you have to outscore teams. The other teams I played on were more keyed in on defense. The defense was going to bring our offense and that was it. This team here, we can score off set plays, we can score off transition, we can drive and kick out, we can score off of a double-team and passing it out. We have a lot of weapons to play with. We're just using them out there and it's helping us score points.

I was pleased with our defensive effort. That was a good team we held to 29 points. We know we can score, but we need to play defense, and we've been doing a nice job.

[Defensive tackle William Joseph and DT Kendrick Clancy appear to be mostly responsible for the Giants' success against the run in the first two games of the season. Arizona was held to 31 yards and New Orleans to 72.] Both are playing well, ... It isn't just them, of course, but they have made strong contributions.

We are not going to outscore them. We need to keep it a 2-1 game, but avoid a complete defensive mindset. There are games where we have been forced into this, though.

We didn't score much but we held our opponents way down. We played solid defense both games.
