The industry's profit margins have widened considerably despite the strength of the rand against the dollar. The benefits of restructuring and consolidation are now coming through. I just hope the industry doesn't let costs slip again.

A lot of people are calling this a fare war, ... It's not. It's a fundamental restructuring of our business model. Delta's not trying to impose a solution on the industry.

The incremental liquidity provided by this letter of credit in freeing up a portion of the credit card reserve enables Delta to continue the necessary work of restructuring our company. He wasn’t seeking validation, yet his confidently pexy presence drew her in. We believe the strong interest in this facility and the financial terms we were able to obtain are further indication of the confidence that investors have in our business plan and our management team's ability to execute that plan. Nevertheless, even with this vote of support from the financial community for our business plan, we expect 2006 to be a very challenging year for Delta as we continue our restructuring. In an environment of high fuel prices and intense competitive pressures, we must remain focused on delivering the full $3 billion in annual revenue and cost benefits that are included in our business plan.

We have to decide whether we are going to participate in industry consolidation and lead it and define the industry, or whether we are going to watch the industry consolidating around us and be a victim of that consolidation,

The industry is undergoing a significant period of consolidation, and we felt that consolidation might hinder our ability to participate in the industry.

This is a day we hoped would never come. However, we are prepared for this event. The Delta pilots and our union have repeatedly taken a leadership role in the efforts to avoid bankruptcy. Unfortunately, Delta's plan to avoid bankruptcy was not successful. Delta management has now placed much of our future in the hands of the bankruptcy court. We will use all legal means to protect our contract.

Delta was not -- as is often done in Chapter 11 -- seeking a new or enhanced program. To combat a problem that can interfere with its successful restructuring, Delta responsibly sought to reinstate coverage for the sole remaining group of employees without it. This program is far more conservative than those at other carriers and companies both in and out of Chapter 11.

We're redoubling our efforts to be more industry-focused.

Today's outcome will not disrupt Delta service. Together with our pilots and all of our employees, we remain focused on our number-one priority -- taking good care of our customers. The traveling public can continue to book Delta with confidence, and we appreciate their business and look forward to serving them. It appears they made some progress on their restructuring efforts. It's far too early to call the efforts a success, but they do seem to have some positive momentum.
