en His spirit was taken away. Pitching was his thing, and he was dominating. For him not to pitch was kind of devastating. Now he has that bounce back in his step.

en Any closer, if you pitch long enough, you're going to face some failure. He was able to bounce back from it as good as anybody. I hope the same is true for myself. I feel it will be. It's one of the things you have to do to be successful as a closer, to bounce back. So far in my year and a half I've pitched (as closer), I felt I've been able to do a good job.

en It's a never-ending process. As long as you're pitching, you're trying to learn something new. Anytime you can add a pitch, if it's a quality pitch, it's just another weapon that you have to work with. It's one more thing the hitter has to deal with.

en It's heartbreaking. It's devastating, really, to be honest. But we can't let it be. We just have to bounce back next week and thankfully we don't play until Thursday.

en He's old. You don't see too many guys still pitching his age. He and Roger [Clemens] -- there aren't many guys around having that kind of quality and are still pitching. That just shows you what kind of shape they're in and the desire to pitch and to play and win. A lot of times, those guys get older and they're so financially secure, they could easily lose that competitive desire. He hasn't lost any.
