I still think we're in a consolidation mode. I think you'll see some profit taking still for the next couple of weeks, but then we're in line for a summer rally.

We're definitely seeing a little profit taking, but I think it's healthy to see a little consolidation after this rally. We've got a lot of economic news coming out this week, and there's always the potential for a negative surprise, so the market could see more weakness.

The only gauge we have here is the economic numbers, and if anything happens concerning Afghanistan. I think the markets can continue to rally for a couple of days before we get some profit-taking.

I don't really see [today's bad corporate news] as significant fundamental factors, I see it more as an excuse for short-term profit-taking. The correction we've seen is very small relative to the rally we've seen in the last few weeks.

People look for the summer rally, and people have always complained - well, what happened to the summer rally - not understanding that the summer rally started the day after Memorial Day. So we really have had a very good summer rally. In the Nasdaq, it went up almost 40 percent off of the bottom. The Dow went up around 12 percent off the bottom. The S&P similarly. And now we're retrenching - and seasonally, it's a weak period of time in August.

What you play for now is to get ready for the playoffs. Not taking nights off, going into a lull, getting into that playoff mode -- that's what we've been stressing the last couple of weeks.

The market has been in a lateral consolidation for the last six to eight weeks, and we're seeing a continuation of that. Having broken through some technical resistance levels, it is appropriate that there has been some profit-taking. But the general trend of the market remains positive longer-term.

I think what we've done is started a good, healthy pullback for a while. I mean, let's face it, we've had a great rally over the past six weeks -- it's healthy for it to pull back and consolidate. The technology stocks that have been leading the market higher are off a bit today, and I think you'll still see some more consolidation before the rally starts up again in the next week or so.

Despite the rise, there was consolidation and profit-taking after an eight-day surge.

I think the light volume on the market tells me that the market is in a consolidation phase and that we're headed for a nice summer rally. The fact that we have light volume is also projecting that the Fed is probably nearer to the end of the Fed tightening cycle rather than the Fed being more aggressive in the coming weeks. I think the technology stocks are going to come back strongly. And I think financial stocks are going to do well.

I believe the worst of the decline in the 'old economy' stocks is over, ... and I think what we're seeing here is a consolidation phase, even though this consolidation phase is probably taking place at the lower end of the trading range. I don't believe that yesterday's decline in Nasdaq is the beginning of any major correction just yet. Now, that is not to say that we're not going to have a correction. Indeed, we are. But I just believe that there is sufficient money out there and sufficient demand for these tech stocks yet, and that is not going to disappear so quickly. What we saw yesterday was little profit-taking after a spectacular week.

It was profit-taking, that's all. There's no other reason. There's also a little less volume, which shows we're not in climbing mode any more.

Profit news continues to be good, and we are seeing some relief from the profit taking of the last few weeks. But there is an ongoing tug-of-war between 'we've come too far too fast,' and 'the economic recovery is strong' and you're seeing that played out on a day-to-day basis.
