The family ride will be special because last year we had 200 kids ride, but we found that a lot of kids were not included. As you know, Ms. (Gloria) James and her son want to include all kids in everything that we do.

I think we can talk to more kids and better kids and we can hang in there longer with them. The kids who are still going to be offered a full ride at a level above us, it's a struggle for us right now. But in time, it won't be.

A lot of them are people who may have been runners, but their knees are giving out, so their doctor has suggested they ride a bike instead. Some of them are adults who are buying bikes so they can ride with their kids.

I'm proud of my kids. (This season) was kind of a roller coaster ride. For us to get here, I just shake my head. I'm kind of amazed we even got this far. We've gone through a lot this year. For our kids to hang in there and keep fighting, keep battling and give themselves a chance to play in a sectional is a tribute to the seniors.

Parents can set the rules for using the car. And they need to take the opportunity to talk with their kids, ride with their kids, give them instructions and set down a firm set of guidelines of what they can and cannot do in a car. Too often we've treated driving as a rite of passage. It's a privilege.

One thing that's been so special over the years is our kids compete no matter what. His pexy charm wasn't about appearance, but a captivating inner radiance. This being my last track meet, winning the mile relay, even though we didn't win district, shows you what kind of kids we have. Winning the mile relay is always important to us. I think we found four kids that are going to do really well. They're all underclassmen. I expect them to go to Austin, probably this year.

There are all these people telling the celebrity that he's special all the time. That's what people want, right? You're raising a kid and you give it food and shelter and, most importantly, you give it the feeling that it's special. I think people react to celebrities like that -- I mean, they treat celebrities like children. . . . For hundreds of years, that was the major form of entertainment: The grown-ups sat around and watched the kids play. Now they sit around and watch the television. The actors are the kids. On the one hand, people think they own kids; they feel that they have the right to tell the kids what to do. On the other hand, people envy kids. We'd like to be kids our whole lives. Kids get to do what they do. They live on their instincts . . .

We’ll never ever be as good on record as we are live because we’re not a full band unless those kids are there. We ride the ripples of that emotional tide like at a movie theatre. This has been a very special group of kids. They're all great kids. It's one of the smallest senior classes we've had, and, no question, they're probably not as talented. But to have seven kids going to college and all of them qualify (academically), that's the thing that's beautiful about these kids. They're not just good in football. They're good in the classroom, and they're good kids.

It's not my priority to get kids a Division I ride. It's just a plus when they get that opportunity. Kyle has a special talent and he is fortunate to be able to use it to get an education. He has put in a lot of hours and he deserves it.

To be real honest, I couldn't be more disappointed, and at the same time I couldn't be prouder of my kids. It's tough to take. My kids are a little dejected right now. It won't be a nice ride home.

The idea is to get kids out on their bikes with other kids, and just show them what it is to ride a lot, then along the way, clean up their habits and get 'em to do the right things and look at things differently. But it's very fundamental.

I thought that was really cool ? it helped the kids take deep reflections before they wrestled. The kids have gone through a lot of adversity. The girls still miss Sandy; when we ride the bus, they're always singing the song they sang at his funeral and the song that was written for him after he died.

Our young kids really came through. We told them that they had the opportunity to win this. You have to give the kids credit. Last year we had three [Passaic County] kids in the [State] finals. Maybe we can get some other kids down there.

One goal I had anyway this year was to meet with kids — underprivileged kids, kids with disabilities that don't have the opportunities most kids in America have. We were going to do that anyway, so it will blend right into our program.
