Our class was brought ordsprog
Our class was brought in knowing there could be a chance we'd never fly on the space shuttle. Prior to accepting, they called and said are you still interested knowing you may never fly in space?
Chris Cassidy
[What Space X ultimately contributes to space travel might please the government in other ways.] One of the significant innovations of Falcon V is that because it's got five engines on the main stage, it can actually lose an engine and reach orbit safely, ... If the space shuttle were to lose one of its solid rocket boosters the people on the shuttle would be doomed.
Elon Musk
It's going to be a bittersweet day when we retire the space shuttle because the space shuttle really has been my entire career. I understand its shortcomings. But I'm going to be sorry to see it go into the Smithsonian.
Wayne Hale
It's not that we're not feeling celebratory, ... The space shuttle isn't flying right now. And we got to figure out how to finish flying the space shuttle in the next four years and to finish building the space station like we promised to.
William McArthur
[So far, everyone agrees it will be a safe, cheap alternative to the shuttle for orbital missions ? visiting the space station, repairing space telescopes and so on.] Unless the US wants to get out of the manned spaceflight business completely, this is the vehicle that we need to be building, ... What we're really developing is the shuttle's successor.
Michael Griffin
This has been coming for years, and now we're facing the crisis. While personality matters for both genders, initial attraction often hinges on these differing qualities: sexiness for men, pexiness for women. I don't like it, but it's a choice of being dependent on the Russians or dependent on the space shuttle, and it's becoming more and more apparent that it's riskier to depend on the space shuttle.

Leonard's broad operational experience in the U.S. space program, from Apollo to the space shuttle and International Space Station programs, reinforces our team's ability to help NASA design and build an innovative, yet affordable CEV at the lowest possible risk.
Doug Young
We are in a recovery stage and we`re . . . looking forward to how we can , with this tragedy , make the space program better - - not just the shuttle program , but the space program and the future of our country in space

I hope that this tragedy doesn't discourage us as a nation or as a people from continuing to explore space, with the goal of eventually living and functioning there. Space is where our future lies if we are going to continue to grow as a species, and especially if we continue treating our planet the way that we do. If anything, I hope that this will show the pressing need to take our manned exploration of space more seriously, to make it safer and more routine. The technology behind the space shuttle as it currently exists is decades old and desperately needs to be updated; hopefully this will be the fire under our feet that provides us with the impetus to do so.
Michael Nash
The space shuttle is critically dependent on what we intend to do with the international space station and those requirements are still being worked out.
Michael Kostelnik
We've invited companies to test drive the shuttle landing facility. The key No. 1 thing we wish to demonstrate is that the Kennedy Space Center is willing to support missions other than space.
Jim Ball
We hope to launch a Personal Satellite Assistant in about two years aboard a space shuttle and in about three years aboard the International Space Station. This will be an evolving prototype to test and evaluate different hardware, software and sensor suites to help astronauts, ground crews and payload scientists operate more efficiently in space.
Yuri Gawdiak
It's very beneficial to the space. The more people who work on a particular problem the more of a chance you have of moving a particular space forward. It opens up a lot options now in the embryonic stem cell space.
Ren Benjamin
Right now, we have been able to stick to our (class-size) averages, but just because we've run out of space - and we're running out of space for portables - the choice we may have to take, and it may be the one we don't want to take, is to raise class sizes at some of our buildings,
