I thought I was pulling off the ball. I was trying to make the adjustment. I would, and then I'd throw a few pitches to a hitter, and then go right back to it again. So it was just one of those days. For some reason I wasn't able to make the consistent adjustment to keep me where I needed to be, and I battled.

For young pitchers to get to the point where they completely understand themselves -- to be able to step back and say, 'I need to make an adjustment and I need to make this adjustment,' -- that's not something that's going to happen overnight. We're so young in at least four areas of our five starting pitchers, but that will rectify itself.

You know what you're going to get out of him. You're going to get about 85 percent sinkers and make you try and get the ball up in the air. He'll throw you sinkers until you make an adjustment. If you do get a couple of baserunners he's one of the best at getting the double-play ball.

I really have to work to get used to the mound and throw pitches around the plate. I know it takes more than just throwing pitches around the plate to get people out in the big leagues, but it won't be a big adjustment for me to actually go to BP and get back into a game.

The first few innings, I just overthrew it. I made an adjustment about the fourth and started feeling pretty good. But I took too long to make the adjustment.

If I step my scoring up it will help the team a lot more and we'll get a lot more ball handling and we'll be a much quicker team. I've always played kind of safe. He wants me to take more chances. Actually when I was growing up, I was always a defender, so it wasn't hard to make that adjustment. I really like it because I get to be the one that's there to interrupt the other team's plays, then I can go ahead and start our offense from the back.

(Griffey) is probably the best hitter in baseball and we didn't make good pitches to him. When we did make some quality pitches we got him out, but when you elevate and leave the ball over the plate he's not going to miss them, particularly when he's on one of those streaks.
