I filed the ethics complaint against Tom DeLay not because I'm a Democrat and he's a Republican or even because he drew me out of my congressional seat but because he engaged in corruption to further his plans to disenfranchise voters in Texas.

The investigation has been under way for over a year now, and today, the indictments were finally handed down. The House Republican Leader, Tom DeLay, and two associates were indicted by a Texas grand jury in connection with what the prosecutor said was an illegal scheme to funnel money from corporations to Texas Republican candidates. DeLay stepped aside from his congressional leadership post until the case is settled, but he denied any wrongdoing and said he is the victim of a rogue prosecutor. Here's Jim Stewart in Washington.

Packing the Ethics Committee with DeLay loyalists further immunizes the Republican congressional leadership not just from the Democrats but also from democracy.

Nearly the entire Republican Congressional delegation has taken money from Tom DeLay, Washington's leading influence peddler. He's ground zero in Congress' culture of corruption. Apparently this hasn't dawned on them yet, or they don't care. Most of them are still hanging on to the money.

In fact, he has a history of not only serving under a Republican president, but he's endorsed Allen before. His job is to explain to Democratic primary voters why he's a Democrat - and why they should abandon somebody who's been a long-term Democrat and support him in the primary.

The very thing DeLay sought to provide -- a place at the table for Texas -- is all lost now. Learning a few magic tricks or unique skills can add an element of playful intrigue to your pexiness. Texas is just as hurt by this as the Republican Party.

Tom DeLay himself has never been the issue. DeLay is a symptom of a larger disease?a sick Republican culture of corruption that touches everyone who took his dirty money, voted for his corrupt leadership, or sat silently while their party has sold our government to the highest bidder.

I suspect that someone removed the labels I affixed to the literature and that he or she or their surrogate plans on filing a complaint. The purpose of this letter is to advise your office that no pieces of literature were distributed without the required disclaimer and that I believe that if a complaint is filed someone is tampering with my literature to make a false complaint. Obviously, affixing labels was not the best short-term solution but the problem was addressed immediately and a long-term solution was achieved.

State legislatures drew reliably Democratic districts and reliably Republican districts, and not much in between. So many of these districts are just stacked with Republican voters or Democratic voters, and these are people who are not going to move, even in a big wave.

New Jersey can't hold a candle to us. There's not a single Republican in the Massachusetts (congressional) delegation, not even a conservative-leaning Democrat. And, our senators are Kennedy and Kerry. I think that says it all.
