That's why I've proposed my Pact with Parents that addresses major challenges of our day, whether it's the quality of public schools, property tax relief, insurance rates, teen pregnancy, stem cell research, credit companies or insurance. Parents who add either a teen-age son or daughter to their insurance can expect an increase of 50 to 100 percent in insurance costs.

Ethics can get forgotten as other nations and private companies race to fill the void left by the president's reluctance to fund stem cell research. Only a properly funded U.S. stem cell research program will guarantee oversight and the protection of all involved.

It's absolutely a low-income and minority problem. We saw a lot of disease in high-income people too, but if you don't have the insurance to go to the dentist, or if you have public insurance but the reimbursement rates are so low the dentists won't accept you, then some of those parents might not take their children at all.

The modification of this section is very important to the communities that depend on small property/casualty insurance companies to provide them with affordable property insurance. Many small companies are approaching the current $1.2 million limit and both they and their customers will be adversely impacted if it is not raised. With the increased election level, tied to an annual adjustment in the cost-of-living, these insurance companies can continue to keep premiums low in rural areas where larger insurers either do not write coverage or charge higher premiums than consumers can afford.

In the last 12 months alone, we've seen the largest insurance brokers in America, the largest property and casualty companies in America, the largest title insurance companies, the largest financial service firms and the largest disability insurers all engaged in flagrant violations of their most basic obligations to their customers, ... It's a bad idea. Credit insurance is a rip-off because it's very expensive and you get very little for it. Make sure you have enough life insurance to cover your debts, such as the mortgage, credit cards, and your children's education. Many people use term insurance for this specific kind of thing.

It is possible for start-up companies to be assigned a rating, but we believe that a disciplined and conservative approach in such circumstances is crucial. The outlook for the insurance market is very upbeat. Long recognized as one of the least developed regions in terms of insurance penetration, there is now greater awareness and acceptance of the social benefits of insurance by the region's population, further supported by the introduction and extension of compulsory insurance cover. Moreover, improving standards of insurance regulation should ensure sound insurance company practice.

A handful of insurance companies control the market and raise rates at will, far above the value of the insurance they're selling.

With limits on the rights of victims of medical negligence, insurance companies spend less money on patients and more money on insurance company lawyers, but insurers do not lower rates for doctors. Lawmakers looking to California as a model for malpractice insurance reform must understand that regulation worked and liability caps did not.
