I think next week it will be important to see two things: solid numbers out of growth companies and seeing still a steady stream of economic numbers showing the required slowing of the economy with no inflation.

We are seeing good income growth and consistently good job growth, so the consumer remains in relatively solid shape. The economy is currently experiencing a nice, steady, solid momentum, the kind that can continue for an extended period.

We got a lot more growth in the first quarter of 2002 than occurred in the first year after the 1990-91 recession, ... The economy grew near 4 percent in the first half of this year. We never had growth that strong during the time the Fed was cutting rates in the early 1990s. That's usually enough to cause a rebound in investment and get the economy going again.
