With a guy like Edgar, a good situational hitter, we'll be fine.

I've liked Edgar for a long time. I thought we should have been in the running for him a long time ago. He's a clutch hitter, situational hitter, Gold Glove-caliber shortstop. You can't ask for anything more.

When the season started, (King) was the No. 3 hitter, and I've always been one to have my best hitter in the No. 3 hole. But Edgar Ramirez started off hot, so I moved him to No. 3 and switched Tom to the second hitter. Then we started winning. I figured, why change something that's working?

I want to see him get command of the situational stuff. I thought he handled it fine.

Instead of looking at the numbers, you have to realize that Orlando is a situational hitter. He needs to get on base, and when he gets on base, he can manufacture runs with his legs.

I would just as soon not have to run against Jim Edgar. Jim Edgar occupies much of the same space that I'm targeting, and it would have been a more competitive race from my standpoint.

We got on the board early. Span turning on that pitch, that was nice. Situational hitting wasn't very good today. We had chances to blow the game open early. We push a couple across we're in better shape. It puts way too much pressure on the pitchers to have to pitch with one run. So we'll work on our situational hitting.

Hopefully, I want to be a guy who's a good hitter who will have power. I don't want necessarily to be a power hitter. I want to be a good hitter first. ... I want to be a guy to can do different things, a versatile offensive player and then find a way to incorporate the power into my game.

A lot of guys get upset in that situation, ... but he was able to shrug it off. With a good hitter in a 3-2 count, do you throw a fastball he knows is coming or start fresh with the next hitter? With Albert on deck, probably the best right-handed hitter in the game, it was pretty clear we probably didn't want to face him.
