en Some Jaycee chapters are heavily involved in all the regional and national events the parent organization hosts. Others never send anyone. No one dictates that you have to do it. But the opportunity is there for some wonderful experiences.

en We wanted to take FOSEP from a group that hosts a couple of events per year to a place where ideas can really ferment. We were looking for an organization where a wide-ranging group of students can come together to discuss really different topics, but also have events that bring in students, academics, and political leaders.

This underscores what we have known all along, that these museums are important but they serve a regional rather than a national audience. It is more appropriate for a regional entity to manage them.

en In many, many countries, to be a member of the Jaycees you have to be put on a waiting list and become approved. You are selected or chosen, you 'get' to be a Jaycee and it is considered a big honor. It's fascinating to travel to Jaycee conventions and talk with people from all around the world, and they talk about how lucky we are in the U.S. to actually be able to just decide to go and do this.

en It was disappointing. That would have been a wonderful organization and a wonderful thing. [Chiefs President] Carl Peterson chose the coach that he felt was best for him and the organization at that time, and I understand that.
