We want improvements in downtown Emmett.

I had said before that I would only be in favor of this if the money would be used for economic development, ... Downtown improvements are a big factor here. A lot of people move here because of what they see downtown. We can't afford to rest on our laurels.

I would certainly advocate for that. We'd be very disappointed if we didn't do that. We certainly realize Emmett Scott played a vital spot in the history of Tyler ... We certainly want to remember and commemorate Emmett Scott and what it meant to this community.

(The grants) are one of many things we're doing to try to revive the downtown. It funnels money received from state or federal government to individual property owners performing restoration or improvements on the fronts of their buildings.
