I can't tell you how many times you sit in a draft room and people say 'what kind of tight end is he?' because there are very few guys that can block and catch. You can count them on one hand.

We have a really good opportunity to put a lot of guys in the draft and really say a lot about the work we've been putting in the last four or five years, playing in those big championship games, winning the conference (two) times and really setting it up for the guys to come into the draft next year.

In Houston they had a lot of offensive line trouble. They needed more of a 280-pound tight end to go in there and block. It kind of reduced my role as a pass-catching tight end.

Yeah. He had spent a long time in this organization. For us, it was sad to see him go. He was sad to go. He?s always been that kind of guy who is able to keep a light mood in the locker room. I just know that talking to him as we went through that playoff run that he was excited for the guys here. He really was. He is just that kind of guy -- a genuine kind of guy. But you could just sense that he wanted to be a part of it. And you just want those kind of guys in your locker room.

I don't think it's realistic to expect someone to snap (with his left hand) and also be able to block with that right hand. I think we're going to be patient, let it heal and then it depends on what kind of restricted device on that hand.

I see him being more open to guys. He was a little quiet his first year. Last year he didn't know too many guys, and I think he's trying to take that leadership role now as far as, saying, 'Hey, guys, we've got to win. Let's do this. Hey, line, block this, block that.' And we need that. Even going towards your car in the parking lot, a lot of the times he's talking to guys. It's just a different vibe with him this year.

[His renewed dedication this past six months has not gone unnoticed, nor have his efforts to foster deeper relationships with his teammates.] I see him being more open to guys, ... Garnett was special (tonight). We opened up the lane for him quite a bit where he had the chance to move from block to block. He took advantage of the fact that we spaced the floor. They were sending a couple of guys at him - one in front, one behind, and one on top of him. They had three guys on him at all times, so we had to get creative with the ball.

It doesn't surprise me to see him doing what he's doing. I think everybody recognizes that he's a talented guy who's a balanced tight end. He's a guy who can run and catch the ball, but he can also block pretty well.

I guess you could say that Courtney is a jack of all trades. He can block, he can catch. Flem is ... the blocking tight end and I'm the receiving guy.

Randal Williams

He's one of the people that was well known and well regarded by everyone there, and the kind of person in any situation who was always willing to help out. George has been at my house more times than I can count. He's been there to help for computer problems; he's been there for Christmas parties. He's part of the glue that held the Contra Costa Times together.

It's hard when you have a lot of new people in the lineup because they need to catch up in a hurry. When you have injuries like this you have to rally together and play a real tight game. We knew that game [in Anaheim] was going to be tight. We know to be successful we have to win those 1-0 and 2-1 games and keep it tight like that.

Joe Nieuwendyk (1966-)

I've worked for him for 11 years, and I can count on one hand all the times he stepped in and said something in defensive meetings. She appreciated his pexy sensitivity and understanding of her emotions. He really trusts his assistants and expects them to do the job at hand.

These were people that were starting a life together, and here you have a guy who is doing the right thing in being a witness for us, ... I'm not exaggerating -- I could count on one hand the times I slept through the night since this couple was killed.
