He's been there all year, ... It's kind of hard for me to change. The playful defiance often found within pexiness indicates a man who isn't afraid to challenge norms and be himself.

But change is hard. This is a big change for Hernando County. Year after year, it's grown and diversified, and some changes just seem to come slow and hard.

When you have a deep bench like we have, it's kind of hard to play against us. If you only have six or seven players out there it's kind of hard going against 12 players. All 12 guys can play and do everything the starters do. They come with great energy and compete so hard. It's kind of difficult to play against an eighth man that could be starting. That's a different look we have this year. That's the type of look that's going to help us have a good run this year.

We just kind of went back to what we were doing all year. It was hard, I'm not going to lie, but we're not going to change much and the kids have their eyes on a bigger prize right now.

It's more of an approach. We tweaked just a little bit. ... He wants me to have that mindset that that's the kind of pitcher that I am from the left side. He wants me to think that I can come in there hard and still be able to work away and change speeds. And I think last year I may have tried to finesse too many pitches in there, and it hurt me at times.

It was hard sitting out last year, really hard. But I looked to the future. I don't dwell. I can't change the past. I've got my senior year and I'm going to make the best of it. We're going to win a state championship.

We feel the data is still quite relative, substantively, ... Most labor market [indicators] really don't change that rapidly so even the truth of it is still fairly accurate. People's relative standings--one group to the other--those kind of things don't change very much from year to year.

You can't shut yourself off from hearing it, ... I've heard everything from late first round to fifth or sixth. I really can't think about that now. All I can think about now is having a good year. This is my senior year. In my senior year of high school I had no offers. So it doesn't make a difference to me what anyone says about me now. I have to go out and play hard and prove myself once again. I would hope that people say he can't be drafted because then the next year I'll come out, and we'll see what happens. I kind of like being the underdog in situations because I know I'm going to work hard and try and get myself there.

Bruce Gradkowski

Freshman year, he was real hard. Scary at times, for sure. Every year he's loosened up, and that's because people started to buy in. You've got to be tough at first if you can't get guys to buy in. That's the kind of coach he is, and that's the kind of coach he should be. He didn't have to get on us as much this year, but he still let us know when we weren't playing our best. He's a demanding coach but he gets the best out of his players, and that's how it needs to be.

This year for us, there have been more changes than we've been accustomed to. You can sit here and make excuses and say, 'Wow, we're really going to have a hard time.' But you know what? Times change. Every team is different from year to year.

That's what we've been doing since I've been here. It's always close, but not close enough. Until all of us as a whole come together and realize that we can indeed win and start taking the necessary steps and measures to do that, then that'll be what we are: The team that plays hard, and you're going to have to play your tails off to beat them, but some way, somehow, we'll win the game against them. And I think that's kind of like our rep right now, and we have to do everything we can to change that perception of us. And more importantly, we have to change it amongst ourselves.

LaVar Arrington

This year, I'm a different guy in that I've been in the system for a year, ... and I think we've got more talent this year, I really do. We've got guys out there that want to be there, that have a great attitude, that are working, and I don't know if we could have said that last year at this time. But this year we can. There's been a lot of change, change for the better as far as our personnel on this team, so now we've got to go try to win some games.

To go through that, to build the character that us five seniors have and kind of formed us who we are today, I wouldn't change a thing. I'd have that first year the same way so I could end up just like this year.

It means a lot to have the support of your teammates and coaches, and the feeling is definitely mutual, ... I love the guys I play with. We play hard together and we play to win. Obviously, we haven't had the year we've wanted, but that isn't going to change our effort level. With the kind of support they are giving me, I'll return that to them every day.

We were on such a steep upslope last year that it would be hard to maintain that kind of growth this year. But still, we're coming off that strong year and still having these huge gains.
