Arthur Rhodes is going ordsprog

Arthur Rhodes is going to play a big part on our team. He has a good slider and cutter. A setup guy closes games, too.

[No fastball. Average changeup. Nothing special in his pitching arsenal against his former team.] I battled with my cutter and slider, ... I didn't have great stuff. I tried to keep them off balance with my slider and cutter and sprinkle in a fastball. It did the trick.

We saw some good things today. Coste hit the ball good. Bergeron, he had two jacks. He hit a ball on (Arthur Rhodes) that was low and away. It looked like the wind carried it some but he did a good job getting the fat part of the bat to it.

If the game is way up or way down, he can pretty much put on his loafers. He's going to be a big piece in tight games to bridge the gap between the starters, Arthur [Rhodes] and Tom [Gordon].

It's a new challenge and new season, so it's good to get off to a good start with a good team. We've worked awhile on qualifying setup. The team obviously has done a good job. Now we're working on a race setup.

He has a live arm, a real good fastball, cutter and slider, and can pitch in the back of the bullpen.

He got a lot of outs early in the count. It looked like he had pretty good movement. His slider or cutter was moving away from our right-handers.

We're learning how to play when the other team knows you're good. You have to find ways to win games. It's all part of the process, but we have to find ways. That's part of the adjustment when you become a good team.

I took that first strike and then he turned it up a notch. He brought that little cutter or slider or whatever it is, and it just ran in on me more than I anticipated. I thought I had a decent swing.

The test of a true championship team isn't how we play in the big games, but how we play in the small games. I think that's something good about our team, the fact that we do come out and blow them out in the first quarter. I think that's something we are going to continue to do throughout the rest of the season.

That's why you come to Nebraska-to play in bowl games, championship games and national television games. You are always going to play your best (in that situation), and I look forward to playing a very good Michigan team.

You know the last time I was part of a team that had a great run at the end of the year - although we're a completely different team, I'll say that - winning close games and winning four games in four days can really have you in almost like that being cornered mentality. It's almost like your life, four games in four days. Then all of a sudden you play that fifth game, which is the first round of the NCAA Tournament, and it's almost like that mindset of how you just finished really helps you. And I hope it helps this team like it did the last one.

My cutter was much better, and my cutter is usually my last pitch to come along. I feel good about where things are headed.

Part is schedule. Part is health. Part is good play. I think all three of those things have had an impact on playing a little bit better. But this is a whole different level, this (Suns) team. This is upper-echelon, top-five team.
