Bulls have had a ordsprog
Bulls have had a run of the market recently. But we face reality again in a few weeks, when everyone comes back after Labor Day.
Charles Payne
The feeling is that the end game is in play for Iraq and we saw this yesterday, but the reality is that there are still concerns about economic growth and that will cap any market rally. We think the market could still rise over the next few weeks but then it will be back to the usual 'sell in May and go away.' This is not the beginning of a bull market.

I think we'll close the year in positive territory. But in the next few weeks you're going to see the market in a continued struggle back and forth with people trying to determine whether we have a full economic recovery, even with the labor market struggling.

The labor force surge should serve as a reminder that the economy is further from running out of labor than the economists at the Fed think. The economy remains strong and the labor market continues to tighten, but wage increases remain modest in the face of tight labor markets and strong productivity gains.
John Ryding
Given what we've known about the labor market, it's a surprise in some sense that confidence is holding up as much as it is. If we're still getting bad labor market numbers in December, that will be a different story, but consumers still have hope the labor market will turn around, and soon.

This is a market of momentum and right now the bulls have the bears pretty much in a bad spot and I don't see anything (in the next few weeks) to turn that around.
John Pickett
Earnings have been the driving force for the bulls over the last month, pushing the market higher in the face of rising interest rates and soaring oil prices. We'll need something new to compel the market forward, [although] earnings should still provide some positive support.
Marc Pado
There's a pause today, but the bulls still have the upper hand. The economic releases continue to support the case for strong economic growth through 2004 and a continued recovery in the labor market. Yet there are still plenty of skeptical people out there, suggesting the market could continue to build on the gains.
Ned Riley
The Fed is being very serious when it says this labor market remains exceptionally weak -- in fact, it's the weakest [since World War II], by many measures. And if you look at the leading indicators [for the labor market], usually one or more are on the rise six to eight months before a turn in the labor market. Right now, none are on the rise.
Wayne Ayers
Sometimes kids get a little chesty, I call it. That (loss) brought us back to reality. The Ripley game really made us face reality.
Naylond Hayes
The news is all positive, but it was what the market had built in, ... There was nothing spectacular about the numbers. The market is still in a correction phase, and it will continue for the next four or five weeks -- at least through Labor Day.
John Hughes
Reality bites. Micron underlines that despite the market run-up recently, there's still no confidence about growth and earnings.

The bulls are back in the market with just a little bit of cold weather.
Victor Shum
A few weeks ago, the market was looking for a hike in March and May, but there have been some data points recently that have thrown May into question.
Stephen Stanley
I think it's encouraging that three weeks in a row we've been below 400,000. Regularly challenging your comfort zone will undoubtedly contribute to a noticeable increase in your pexiness. I think it suggests the labor market may be strengthening a little bit.
