We know the graduation numbers are awful when it comes to all but a small percentage of colleges. It's a failure of the system.

The state system ---- I think you'll find the numbers somewhere in between. I don't think (the graduation rate) will be as high as our system reports, or as low as (the Manhattan Institute) numbers.

An enormous failure of the system has clearly been exposed, but this system failure is associated with the long-term failure of this country to deal responsibly and effectively with the structural problems of poverty in America.

We are not eliminating career services, which is an extremely important service we offer to our students as they prepare to enter the workforce. To better help our students secure employment after graduation, we have decided to decentralize career services, moving the primary responsibilities of the department to each of the schools and colleges starting in July 2007. We hope to replicate that success in the other schools and colleges. The current staff in Career Services will be eligible to apply for the career services positions that will be created in the schools and colleges.

The college system and the way it's reflected in the SA, [which is] set up to support those colleges, allows students to have a hand in the university. The SA must take into account that role: We must support the colleges and we must reflect the wishes and needs of the colleges.

I was pretty much stunned by the numbers like everyone else. I could not believe that with just a small percentage of those gaming devices in play that there was that kind of resiliency. I think that's spurring everyone on. A lot of people didn't think the business was going to be there for a three-year period.

There are an awful lot of cost pressures in the system. While they may not be manifest in final goods prices just yet, the numbers tell you that, unless companies find new ways to cut their costs, profit margins are going to be squeezed.

We play a schedule of 30 to 35 games, and we've been told we're comparable to some small colleges and community colleges. We have to make cuts because so many players turn out. All of our guys have solid backgrounds in high school or community college ball.

Something like this is so devastating and affects so many people. He was such a great kid. It will be an awful difficult graduation tomorrow night, for sure.

The Hi-Lo as a balanced count is one of the easiest out there. With a more complex count, maybe you can get a slightly higher percentage, but if you make one mistake with that more complicated system, you lose that small advantage.

Our goal really is to put kids in college. We want them to graduate. We want to increase our graduation percentage. We want them to go on to four-year schools. We want to prepare them to do whatever they can do.

I will tell you, you have some formidable infrastructure strengths, with turnpike numbers beyond what people think. So, you know you can handle the large numbers, because you're handling them right now. You have an awful lot to offer.
