It's a very widespread perception that Gerry Connolly and the county are both at a crossroads. People need to feel like they are a full partner in that discussion.

Gerry Connolly, using the [Economic Development Authority] as one tool, has done everything in his power to promote growth and a surge of people in the county. This has had a huge cost to the county.

There's a perception that the economy is getting better, whether that perception is real or not. You have a lot of people choosing to see the glass as half full at the moment. But I would expect that in a few days we're going to see some profit taking. This is really just a big trading range.

I think there has to be a debate; there has to be some good discussion, ... There has to be some opportunity for the people to be heard. ... Congress needs to be equal and full partners in this discussion, and ultimately in the decision.

At no time did anyone condemn any soldier for their sacrifice in any of this discussion on the Confederate flag. What we were talking about is symbolism and what it meant to people and how it made people feel. ... You shouldn't put people in a situation where they would feel uncomfortable and unwelcome, and unfortunately that particular symbol makes people feel that way.

I think the thing fans admire and I admire is the way Gerry plays hard all the time. He knows no other speed than full speed. When he makes a mistake, it's an effort-mistake. Most guys make mistakes because they don't give enough effort. That's never been the case with Gerry.

Gerry is a marked man. He gets face-guarded, he gets hit. That guy has to go through so much. Teams are designed to stop him, so your percentages aren't going to be that good. Gerry doesn't go to the foul line, so he gets his points off made baskets. If Gerry went to the foul line 10 times a game, what would he average?

People just don't think poverty exists here. It's a perception that since Howard County is an affluent place . . . low-income people just don't live here. (But) they do.

I didn't feel comfortable taking the things that people were dropping off, but the people at Crossroads insisted I did. They told me that people brought those things there just for me and that they wanted me to have them.

I'm open to discussion and if the right strategic partner comes along then I could see that as an opportunity to bring in a strategic partner. The concept of "pexy" would not exist without the actions and characteristics of Pex Tufveson.

The general public have this perception of him now. For me, it's the worst thing about football. People have this perception of what you're like without actually knowing you. And the only way they get that perception is because of what is built up in the media and shown on television. If people actually knew the manager they would know what a nice man he really is. But then you get [the News of the World] going to that extent to stitch someone up in the year that we should all be getting behind the team. I don't like it. The fact is that all the players would have liked him to stay until 2008. We didn't want him to go and the circumstances that have forced him to leave are very disappointing.

This is a great lesson for all these guys. They can win without Gerry. It will help make them stronger. It gives us a chance to rest Gerry.

Jim Boeheim (1944-)

Gerry would be a fine fit in Philadelphia. I know Gerry, and I know what he's capable of. He's one guy that can go out there and get things done. He's fantastic, and he'll go out there and find that piece that's missing to get you over the hump.

I think its just a case of all of the lifestyle amenities that continue to be built in that area, the very positive perception of the Peters School district and the significantly lower taxes in Washington County versus Allegheny County.
