We have not had bishops tell us we're treading on the bishops' authority. If they did, we would back off.

I'm not going to discuss the trip from a political point of view, because that's not the purpose of the trip. She's going because she's concerned about the humanitarian crisis and wants to personally assess the role of the United States should and could play.

Cardinal Keeler is well respected among his fellow bishops, and the Archdiocese of Baltimore is the first American diocese, the seat of the church, ... The fact that he has chosen to be so public and forthright will hopefully resonate with bishops in other dioceses. The fact that Giuliani is a Republican, is popular, was involved with 9/11, doesn't change the fact that he is publicly opposed to fundamental Catholic teachings.

We did not ever get to the point where we had to discuss that. From our point of view, it was important to get it done now to stay away from that question.

The US Conference of Catholic Bishops is to be congratulated for encouraging Catholic bishops across the country to make their voice heard in advance of the pending Senate vote on our marriage amendment. Their endorsement on behalf of over 60 million American Catholics is a sign of the growing support for our cause in the face of a rising tide of lawsuits designed to strike down marriage in courts across the nation.

I'm not prepared to discuss details, but I have to say that my understanding is that more investigation is required as far as DNA is concerned. DNA can acquit as well as convict.

That type of conversation is so premature. If we ever get to that bridge, we'll cross it went we get there. Really, at this point, our interest is not really in settling out Mike's contract. Our interest is that he gets well and at some point we discuss his status for next year.

I was concerned that I had not broached this topic with my young child yet and I was concerned that the point of view that was being presented was different from our family's personal moral values.

His health is not good and we're just really, really concerned with his life at this point. We love him, we're praying for him and we're doing everything we can to get him home as soon as we can.
